Help- feel like I've ripped a muscle at the top of my bump

I'm 28 weeks today and I was just getting out of the seat when I got what felt like a stitch in the top of my bump, wasn't worried as I've had this before from some over zealous power walking though usually lower down. However it's gotten worse and though I thought lying down and stretching out might help they haven't, I'm currently curled up in bed afraid to move as its so sore.
Any experience of this as I can't find anything to help online. Is it a pulled muscle or ligament?? I'm also alone tonight as dh is working away- typical.

I've had a pretty sore bruised pain on top of my bump, which gets worse on standing and better on lying down/sitting. I was told by my GP that it was likely the muscles pulling apart and nothing could be done to stop it. Is it made worse by bending? Mine definitely is!

If you're at all worried, phone your midwife (or your out of hours midwife team) for advice as you need reassurance that it's not something else. Hope that helps!

I had this just above where my belly button is (or use to be!!!) when I told my midwife she said it's probably bruised muscles... Not a lot you can do I suppose. Maybe just ask your midwife for reassurance

Thanks ladies,it eased off loads overnight so wondering now if something had just trapped or twisted, still a bit sore but nothing like it was. Glad I'm not the only one though- and I hadn't even heard of muscles separating! How bloody awful!!! Thanks for the replies x

I had this at 25 wks just above my belly button, had a band of pain across from one side to the other and went to the assessment unit as after 3 hrs of it it I was worried it was more than muscular.
All checked out fine and a few days later I noticed a trianglar gap which was the muscles separating.

29+2 and I've got this too. Just pulled muscles from stretching apparently, nothing to be done. I'm comforting myself that it's because baby is tough and kicking like mad (much more than my first pregnancy).

Keep a check on it, pre- and post-natally. It could be diastasis recti.

I had really painful area right above by belly button. It was my muscles separating and you could see a triangle shaped thin area. Really sore. Might be that? Most of my body ached for my second pregnancy - back, hips, undercarriage, kicking lively baby. Just take it easy and don't overdo things and speak to your midwife. I got an elastic bump band to help support things. Sometimes it felt the only thing that was stopping my tummy button bursting!
