I'm confused...

Hello everyone

I'm new to all of this pregnancy stuff so I'm just after a little bit of advice.

I'm currently 6weeks & 4days pregnant & feeling very very sick so Im hoping things with this pregnancy are going well!

I have had 4 miscarriages over the past 3 years so I'm a bit nervous about everything.

I was told by a doctor last year if I fall pregnant to go in straight away so they can offer me early care so I went to the doctors as soon as I knew at 4weeks & 2 days and I was told by a different doctor there's no such thing, he called the hospital who said they don't do reassurance scans but they can do a early scan at 7-8weeks and he has asked me to make an appointment with him next week and he will book me in for this. The nurse on the phone also said to him after 4 m/c's I should of had blood tests to try and see what's been happening which I haven't had, I was told there was nothing they could do.

He also referred me to the midwife and I have an appointment with her a week today. When she called to book the appointment I mentioned about an early scan on the phone she said no they won't do one.

What shall I do? Do I go and see the doctor & get him to book me one due to my history or do I just go to the midwife appointment & take it from there?

I'm not sure what the normal is as it seems to differ in different areas.

Thank you in advance Smile

Congratulations. I think the normal is not to do an early scan without miscarriage symptoms. I think your doctor is right in that there is very little they can do to help you at the moment - without knowing the reason/s for your previous miscarriages. Some clinics may prescribe progesterone but that may only be within private care.

It's a worrying time but you can only take each day at a time x

I think you should push for a scan at 7 weeks as by this time they should be able to see a heartbeat. I went private for my scan at 7.5weeks and it cost me £100 (in central London)
It is annoying when you get told different things by different people but I would go back to the doctor and let him book the scan for you... After 4 previous mcs it is worth it for the reassurance. Do you know what caused your MCs? I wonder if they should check your progesterone levels? I don't know what is the norm - mine is an IVF preganancy so they kept a close eye on my hormone levels xx

We had a reassurance scan at 7 weeks which the midwife organised due to previous MC. I think before then your unlikely to see heartbeat so it could be more upsetting & you wouldn't get any answers. I'd go see the midwife first then book in with the GP again if you still have concerns or they haven't booked you an early scan at 7 weeks.

The waiting is torture but take it one day at a time & maybe organise a few things to do while you wait it out. I found that really helped to focus me. I really hope everything's okay.
