Pregnancy

9 weeks pregnant-big family reunion. How do I hide it?

I will be 9 weeks pregnant next week and have my siblings birthday party.

The thing is I have 20 family members coming out of town and we are all crashing at the 1 house at another family members house.

As this family member knows I am pregnant she is allocating me my own room to sleep on whilst everyone else will be sharing, sleeping on sofas, the floor etc

Anyway my q is this. What excuse do I use for not drinking and also having my own room to sleep in? I am normally the life and soul of the party so using the antibiotic trick won't wash.
I was thinking of saying I had hurt my back and am on meds whereby I can't drink?

Will that work? At 9 weeks I'm not ready to make a big announcement to ALL my family.

I think people will possibly see through it - it might be better to drink something like lime and soda or lemonade and pretend it has vodka in it? after a few drinks, most people really don't notice what anybody else is drinking!

If its a house party, be in charge of getting people's drinks. So it looks like you always got one in hand?

Drink tonic water, say it's gin and tonic

I would do as above and if someone hands you a drink just happen to lose it somewhere or give it to your partner or the family member that knows to drink

Pretending you are drinking will go down better than finding an excuse not to. Just tell them you are not well (explains the room) but will try and enjoy the party as much as you can. Pretend you are drinking if it's wine, if you are having spirits with mixers then that's even easier especially as the host knows. No one will notice.

Congrats and enjoy your party Flowers

Don't come up with a big story. It is like pinning a sign to your chest saying I AM PREGNANT. I would go with pretending to drink. Or possibly saying to a few close people that you've stopped drinking to try. congratulations

If it helps at all I had to have an early scan at 9 weeks and was told if they see a heartbeat at 8 weeks you have a 98% chance of a successful pregnancy. I had no idea and thought you have to wait until 12 weeks before telling people.

Wow thanks all for the ideas.

Yes I should have mentioned that my best friend knows so will be my 'wing woman' and will kindly drink all my alcoholic drinks. I was planning on walking around with a lemonade and saying that is vodka and lemonade

I was more worried about the sleeping thing so will prob just say I've done my back in and not say anything about not drinking. Will just put some big eyelashes on as they always make me feel drunk anyway Grin

I've got a big works night out on Friday. Everyone's been talking about it. I've just started saying "Don't let me drink wine or shots" and I'm going to drink Soda and lime and just tell everyone it's vodka. The only thing is people hearing at the bar, but my best friend is ensuring we are only buying our own.
Good Luck!!
Your big eyelash idea is a great idea!!! Grin xx

Would it be the worst thing in the world if people knew?

Also I'm not sure 9 weeks pg neeeeeds a bed (tho who wouldn't want it), so you could just crash with everyone else?

Hamster - I think for a lot of people crashing with everyone else would give the game away if they are nauseous in the morning. Or in my case I was crashingly exhausted and it would be super obvious if I didn't have a room to creep off to. I'd have managed better crashed on a sofa later on TBH. Grin

Not so necessary for a house party but I was quite proud of myself for pulling off this trick in the pub with my team (who are all in early/mid 20s and big drinkers): ordered a tonic water at the bar and asked the bar man to put an inch of tap water in the glass. Took glass with water and little bottle of tonic over to where my colleagues were sitting and poured tonic in - taadaa: one "G&T". Worked quite well BUT bar man looked as if I was crazy and made me feel v shy.

Later on I used the antibiotics excuse and some saw right through it. Then I realised I was finding the charade so stressful and we had a really big night out planned, so I paid for an early scan and told them once I'd seen/heard the heartbeat! Much easier after that!

Good luck and enjoy the party. PS sore back excuse sounds good.
