Hi all,

I'm 38 weeks and went in for monitoring yesterday afternoon as I had reduced movement Monday night and very weak, sporadic movement yesterday morning which was so unlike the baby's usual movement pattern/strength.Spent an hr on the monitor which showed good movement, I just wasn't feeling it. It also showed regular accelerarions of FHR to over 180 but the DR wasn't concerned. MW thinks baby has turned back to back and this is why I'm feeling less. Left feeling happy and relieved to say the least!

Got home at around 5 yesterday, and between 5 and 11 I only felt 2 movements, 11-3 4 more and a couple more since then but that is it Sad I don't want to waste their time but I am really concerned that if I just take it as being the baby is back to back, how long should I expect to feel less and how will I know if there really is a problem? I am really tired but can't sleep as I am looking for movement.

My DP wants me to call back this morning and tell them I'm still worried but I think they will think I am just wasting their time!
Does anyone here have any experience of back to back and feeling less movement, and if so how long did it last? Didn't experience any reduced movement with DC1 so this is new to me, and I don't like it Sad Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you x

I would call back. Try not to worry what they think, this is your body and dc.

Go back in. It doesn't matter what they think- your baby is more important.

I am a midwife and I trust women and their mother's intuition. If you are still worried please call them back, you are not wasting anybody's time.

I would call back definately. If you're still worried it needs checking again.

Go back lovely, MW and docs would rather see 100 'fussing' pregnant women with reduced movements than a stillborn baby.

I'm not trying to scare you but put it in a bit of perspective for you. You know your baby, if the movements aren't right then is go in.

I'm sure they'll be more than happy to see you

Thank you for taking the time to reply. It makes me feel slightly less irrational to think other people would ring back so will give them another call when they open at 9 and see what they say. I just want everything to be ok, a close friend of mine had a stillbirth at 39 weeks last year and it just worries me as there were no indications anything was wrong until he passed away Sad.
Thank you again for your help x

When I went in for the same reason the midwife said not to hesitate if I wanted to go back in for reassurance. I'd give them a call and go back in they won't think you're wasting their time honest. Thanks

Exactly what kitty said.

It's what they're there for. Go back - no one, no one at all will mind.

Please let us know how you get on.

I went last week and felt bad as the baby started moving lots. They said to me if I was ever worried to go back, it's what they're there for. The lady who looked after me said she would work all day if she knew it was reassuring a mum that the baby was fine. On the other hand I know exactly what you mean and reduced movements, I'm 35 weeks so going to speak to my midwife tomorrow about whats normal and what really isn't. It's so stressful the baby movement thing isn't it xx

Why wait until 9? Phone the labour ward now, they're open 24 hours.

The number we are given at booking in is a general maternity helpline manned 9-9, only to phone labour ward if an absolute emergency MrsKCastle

To be honest, this sort of thing is an emergency and I would call them. Things have changed. Hopefully all is well but you need checked out again as soon as possible.

With the second episode of reduced fetal movements in my local hospital, the plan is normally for CTG, then scan, then review by a doctor to discuss induction.

CountryMummy1 · 03/06/2015 07:57

Our hospital has a 3 visits with reduced movement then induction policy's I certainly worth keep going back as long as you are worried.

Oh I didn't know that hospitals routinely induce early for reduced movement? I had a growth scan last week (DC1 was 10lbs so they wanted to see if this one is too- only 8lb at the mo!) and all seemed ok then so doubt they would scan me again.

I will definitely call them and if they ask me to go in I will go, your all right imi can't worry about wasting people's time when they potential outcomes are so serious.

I went in twice for reduves movement in the last couple of weeks, and wasn't happy after the second time. They said to make sure I called them if still worried as they would rather I get checked out many times than leave it.

They did a scan after the second time and she was fine thankfully. Five days later she arrived.

Yourself and baby come first, don't worry about wasting anyone's time xx

Sorry hullabaloo I didn't want to scare you, especially with you having a friend who has experienced still birth.

I'm sure you are probably more aware than some others having someone close with an experience like that.

It's always just worth calling the labour ward out of antenatal hours to ask about reduced movements.

I'm sure all is fine, I had a period of a few days when my dd1 slowed down, I went in a few times with reduced movements. They had no idea why but the think it was because I'd been sitting slumped (watching the Olympics) for hours on end!

Go back in, I would not be happy to leave things if you are concerned about movement.

Hi all,

Went back in and more episodes of accelerarions but DR not overly concerned, as settled well in between. Been asked to go into the day unit for assessment on Friday to be on the safe side but they feel purely a precaution Smile.

On a side note, had backache and crampy period pains all night and ongoing this morning so hoping that's a sign something is getting ready to happen! though I had this a couple of weeks ago too and nothing came of itSad Keeping everything crossed lol!
