Wondering why I wasn't discharged back to MW from consultant.

Third pregnancy, mw at booking referred me to consultant as 2nd pregnancy
-group b strep
-baby at 36 weeks/ PPROM
-pph (1000ml)
Pregnancy before no issues, and I'm healthy, low bmi/ bp always.

Actually turned out to be quite reassuring at 16 weeks. She crossed out the group b strep stuff, saying it was only policy to give ABs if detected in current pregnancy, wasn't concerned at the mildly preterm dates at all, quite relaxed about the pph last time, even saying she had no problem with MLU and writing this in notes. Didn't even get previous notes, an informal chat and quick scan.

I was pleased to have no extra monitoring and be reassured, I was surprised to be referred at all. But she booked me in to see her again at 36 weeks. In retrospect I wondered what the point of this is? Group b not an issue, even if preterm was an issue I'd have given birth by then and the pph thing won't change from here to now if she's alright with a MLU now.

Genuinely wondering why not just send me back to m/w care, than see me at the beginning and end. Not ungrateful, I'll go, but why...?

Can anyone give an idea? You may guess I'm scared of hospitals/ doctors! I can't help but worry it'll be a barrier to the mlu

I'm not sure of the answer but I'm guessing its their policy. You can't give birth preterm in the MLU so they will need to sign you off at 36 weeks
Good luck - i have similar history to you and cant even be allowed to look at the birth centre leaflet!

Thanks abbey road, I guess I shouldn't want logic over policy! When are you expecting? I worried I won't in reality get a sniff at the mlu, that's the other side of double doors to the labour ward!

In late October. Like you, I'd love the birth centre and its actually in the hospital anyway! I had an emcs last time though so I'll probably go elective section rather than a highly medicalised VBAC.
