I think my bump is too big

Just that really. I have my 25 week appointment on Monday and am terrified the midwife will tell me off! Will I get told to diet? Should I have been dieting? I haven't ever really had to worry about my weight so never really been on a diet and I don't know where to start. But if it's too big, how do I stop it growing so much? What can I do?

  1. No dieting
  2. No dieting
  3. Not a lot - it's meant to grow massive, there's a whole PERSON in there Grin

When you're measured, the MW will tell you if there's anything to worry about. IF they have a concern, they'll refer you for extra scans and possibly test for diabetes.

No need to diet and you won't get told off! If your bump is measuring significantly too big consistently you might get offered a growth scan to check all is well with baby and/or a glucose test to check for gestational diabetes. But chances are everything is absolutely fine and you are just taken by surprise at the quite impressive growth that comes with the second half of a normal pregnancy! Grin

If you have been eating unhealthily/too much then now is not the time to diet. Just eat healthily from now on and if you can, start some very gentle walking for exercise. You can deal with the rest after the baby is born!

I probably have been eating too much bad stuff... Just ate Chinese takeaway... payday treat and all that...

Mostly though, I eat salads, jacket potatoes, quiche, veggies.... that sort of thing. Only eat takeaway once in a while, and certainly less now I'm preggers than before.

God. I hope it's not diabetes. What are the symptoms aside from big bump?

I saw a consultant another day (26 weeks) and I said that I worry that my bump was too big. She said she was only worried when bumps were too small :)

My bump has always felt massive and people have told me it's big but have always measured under with the midwife. Try not to worry

My bump was huge from 20 weeks. Someone asked me at 21 weeks if I only had a few weeks to go! I'm now 35.5 weeks and people are commenting how neat or small my bump is! Confused Baby has measured spot on all the way through. Don't worry about the size of the bump, it's the size of the baby that matters!

Thanks... I'll try not to worry too much. The baby's measurements were normal at the 20 week scan so I guess everything is ok. It's just I've had a lot of people comment on how big the bump is. It seems huge to me as well, but I know it's only going to get bigger.

I had a bit of a bad day yesterday, people at work saying how huge I am and whatnot. I've had a few days away on a course so some people hadn't seen me fora while and I guess they mean well but it's hard sometimes not to get upset.

Mine looks ridiculous, tbh. But it's just because I'm short, so it's all out front. It measures just right when the midwife checks.

Oh, people are so insensitive when commenting on pregnant women's size. There's the classic 'are you sure there aren't two in there?' (yes, quite sure, there are these things called scans now, you know). Then the flattering 'you must be ready to pop!' (no, still another x months/weeks to go, actually). Or, my favourite one someone asked me at 5 months 'when are you due?' 'June' 'Oh. Really?! Hmm' (yes really, dickhead. I can be trusted to know my own gestation).

Ignore them if you can, all that matters is what your MW/sonographer/consultant tells you. My bump has measured spot on all the way through and I've still had all these daft comments. Don't forget you've also got a lot of fluid in there as well as an entire baby!

Thank you. I think I need to take a chill pill sometimes! I get so upset about my size these days, and it's not as though I wasn't prepared to get enormous, I just never really realised what that entailed! Like I say, I've never really had a problem with weight (except when on contraceptives - I had the implant just before getting preggers and it made me bulk out a bit... husband liked my tits though Grin!!!) So this is all new to me. I know I'm lucky in that I've never had a problem before, but I just feel enormous.

I saw my identical twin sister last weekend and was so look jealous of her wonderful tiny waist. I used to have one of those!!!

But then my little bean starts kicking or belly flipping or whatever it is he/she does in there and everything's ok again!!!

You are carrying a whole person in you! And he needs a space to grow! You'll get your waist back, don't worry :) You know, I always found bumps of other pregnant women pretty, but with mine I just feel enormous. But it all temporary and worth it.

Sometimes a bump looks different to how it actually measures. I was constantly told I was tiny, had people asking if the baby was ok etc. I always measured fine, and my baby was big for dates and I had excess fluid. So nothing was as it appeared! I do have quite a long torso though which I think gives the illusion of a small bump.
I was told I would be massive with number 2, but nope, still nothing to see at 18 weeks. I think everyone just carries differently

Daluze, I know what You mean. I saw two pregnant ladies in the mall today, both about the same size as me and both looked great!

It's just on me I think it looks strange. Though I'm like that about bikinis, eyeliner, jeggings and countless other things... it's just me being weird I suppose...

I am finding it odd to get my head around the fact that I'm pregnant, and supposed to be - after all I've spent most of my sexually active life trying to avoid it! Now it's happening (and I want it more than anything) I feel a bit overwhelmed by it all. I keep saying to my husband "we're having a baby!" Like every other day... I think he's bemused by my reaction!!!

I have been worrying over nothing.

Midwife says my weight (11 stone) is 'normal' and my bump is exactly the right size.

I wish I'd never let myself get worked up over other people's comments!
