And it's not even my first pregnancy...but am still stressing out... DH brought home some blue cheese, v like Stilton in taste/consistency - maybe v slightly softer. Naively assumed it was ok as like Stilton and bus says that ok now...but now DH has got me worried as its not certain..aargh am I overeating? Had a few crackers with slices on - DH has been reading about listeria and stressing me out!

I honestly wouldn't worry, so unlikely it's not something to worry about as a one off. Don't google it won't help you feel better, just relax and think what our mothers ate!

It will be fine if its pasteurised. Most cheeses in the UK are. Risk of listeria is very low.

You will be fine, just don't eat cat turds.

Someone on here posted a helpful link on the last cheese panic - basically saying, when was the last time anyone in the uk got listeria from cheese? It's usually hot dogs or pre packed stuff that hasn't been handled too hygienically!

Unless you are ill, why worry? It'll be fine.

Thank you all for reassurances! Thought I would be more relaxed this time around...may as well just avoid these things for rest of pregnancy, but then again can't you get listeria from poorly washed salad Etc too - and I've been eating pre prep salad! Incubation period can be up to 60 days or something too, aargh

Don't panic. Yes, you can get listeria from pretty much anywhere, but there are still only 20-30 cases of listeria infections in pregnant women per year in the UK. In comparison, about 30-60 people per year in the UK are struck by lightning - you're not worried to go outside though, are you?

In the US, they only tell us to avoid blue cheeses that are made from unpasteurized milk. Can you look at the ingredient label for the cheese? Here, at least, it would probably say if it was made with pasteurized milk or not.
