Sex after a C- Section? How long did you wait?

I had my baby girl a week ago my ELCS. I've healed very well, got my dressing off today and all looks good. I'm exhausted from baby, my PND and mental health aren't great and I don't really feel "in the mood" anyway. There is also No pressure what so ever from my DP. Infact he hasn't even mentioned it or tried. It's not the right time just yet. But I'm wondering when I should maybe try? How long did other mums wait before having sex after a baby by section? I don't want to leave it to long or I think it will be a little awkward because ive over thought it. I'm also very self conscious now about my belly (terrible over hang this time round) and my belly has became a map of Britain Sad just wondered if I should wait a few more weeks or bite the bullet and go for it??

Yeah my hormones are a mess right now to. I'm not really in the mood at all. Just wondered if it was something I should maybe try before I lose the will to ever want to again x

My hormones were what made me want to do it I think, I was shocked and it was a once off for a while. There isn't any rush though, you are recovering from major surgery so just go with what feels right

Just didn't get around to it! Had barely done it in the second half of pregnancy anyway so we were a bit out of the habit.

I think it was at least 6 months for us, similar story to Luna.

Was it easy or hard after you got out the habbit to get back into it?

About eight weeks I think, haven't done it again since though and the baby is almost six months old. Just don't feel particularly sexual, and too tired usually. We're still physically affectionate with each other though.

I had a section 6 weeks ago and we haven't done it yet. I stopped bleeding after 2 weeks, but my stomach is still quite sore/numb and my scar still needs to heal a bit, and I really can't risk getting pregnant again so we won't be doing it for little while until I'm physically better and we have contraception sorted.

With my first dc, I had sex really quickly, it was about a week. From what I remember, I only bled very lightly, and it was fine. 2nd time around was a little longer, about 2 weeks. If you fancy it, give it a go. You can always stop if it's uncomfortable.

About 8 weeks I think but I suffered really badly with pain during sex for about a year -- think it was to do with hormone levels being messed up. Not to put you off, I don't think that normally happens!

Just before my 6 week check - because I knew they'd ask!

Two weeks here and then every few weeks. I bled for five weeks or so but we have sex on periods so didn't bother us

8 months. My c section wasn't elective and was a crash section so quite traumatic. I waited until vasectomy result was clear! No doing that again thanks!!! Wink

First time - 7 weeks (only because I bled a lot for more than 6 weeks).

Second time - 14 weeks. Physically it would have been fine after 3 or 4 weeks, but the exhaustion just killed my sex drive stone dead for a long, long time.

I had lochia for 8 weeks then like some sort of unfunny joke got my first period about a week after which was really bad, so I think it was 4-5 months. I was on pelvic rest during pregnancy too due to low lying placenta so in total it must've been ages

I was very horny right after bit waited until about 4 weeks. It was so painful it was impossible :( we haven't tried since (7 weeks now) I don't understand how it can be painful when my vagina is relatively unscathed

Where is it
Painful diamond? Is it in your stomach area or your other area? We haven't tried at all yet. I think I'm still not emotionally ready. Also I never had many stretch marks on my
Tummy during pregnancy but now bubs is out and the swelling from my section has gone down there are loads and I'm so embarrassed to let my
Other half see Sad don't know if we ever get our sex life back. Don't know if I even care right now. Xx

A few weeks each time. I did feel odd. Your hormones are still haywire, which affects how everything feels. Remember contraception! You can go back on the pill after 21 days if you are not BF.

Give yourself a break. You have just had major surgery and have a tiny baby!!

I had an EMCS and my stomach and scar are only now comfortable and my son is 1!

TBH I was definitely not in the mood until I stopped BFing and my hormones settled down at around 10 months!

I had an EMCS and a lot of problems afterwards, including a scar that wouldn't heal and lochia for a long time. So it wasn't until nearer to 7 or 8 months and I wasn't really interested tbh but felt like I should try!

Honestly Halle don't worry about 'losing it'. Think how many years you were alive before you even started having sex - did you worry you might never be able to get into it?
Putting all this pressure on yourself might well be the hormones talking and feeling obligated to be the perfect wife and mother post-baby.
If you don't want to, don't. Having sex if you don't want to is likely to cause far more long term problems for you (should I always feel obligated now? How did I used to feel when I wanted to? Should I start and see if I get into it? Does DH realise I don't really want to and not care :( ? Or is he not bothered :( ?) than just waiting and being nice to yourself.
Also try not to compromise your recovery, your physical health is so important right now and priority has to be with the baby.

7 months after first section (my wound took 5 months to heal and then another couple of months to get over my paranoia about it reopening again) and 16 months after the second (we hadn't sex since we conceived the second baby so it was 2 years in total due to severe rough patch, new baby and toddler, tiredness, out the habit, yadda, yadda etc). Nice to be back on the horse now though
