Just after some opinions really! About 3 hours ago I started getting what I think are contractions, with really intense period type pains, and sometimes a dull ache in my back. Started timing them; on average they are around 8 minutes apart and last 50-60 seconds. The duration is always the same but the frequency has been between every 6 to 10 minutes.

I'm 39+3. Do we think this could be it?!

I never went into labour (two ELCS for medical reasons) I am always excited about labour

ifyoujustsmile Thu 14-May-15 14:37:07

Sounds like it to me... Call midwife/labour suite and ask them? Keep moving though, bounce on a ball etc etc

BabyOnBoob Thu 14-May-15 14:38:16

I think it may well be with the duration of the pains. Good luck smile exciting stuff!

Ilovenannyplum Thu 14-May-15 14:40:38

Ooohhhh exciting times, good luck OP grin

MrsKCG Thu 14-May-15 14:44:25

Scared now! Just going to call labour line. Haven't had a show or anything which is why I was sceptical

Thanks ladies!!!

Number3cometome Thu 14-May-15 15:19:09

I would imagine they will tell you to call back when they are 3-5 mins apart.

Good luck OP!

BabyOnBoob Thu 14-May-15 19:44:37

How are you getting on OP?

MrsKCG Thu 14-May-15 19:57:45

Contractions are still only 8 minutes apart. Labour line told me to call back when they get to 5 minutes, so I'm sat on my birthball with a tens machine on, hoping things start to move a bit quicker soon!!!

BabyOnBoob Thu 14-May-15 20:26:02

Fingers crossed they get going a bit more soon for you smile

I remember it well and thought the tens machine was great!

ifyoujustsmile Fri 15-May-15 07:00:17

Any news OP? smile

MrsKCG Fri 15-May-15 08:02:43

Not really managed to get some sleep, contractions are a little closer together but still 7 minutes. Going to go for a walk with DH when he gets up and hope I don't bump into too many people!!!!

Number3cometome Fri 15-May-15 08:51:25

Hope you're ok OP, the initial stages, can take hours, even days.

Walking will defo help.

lauraa4 Fri 15-May-15 09:03:41

Good Luck! I hope things start progressing quicker today for you! smile

Hi
My first labour started exactly like this, slowed down a bit overnight but then got going again the following lunchtime after a walk to the shops. Sounds like you're doing well, make sure your bag is packed and DP is on standby. My labour ramped up quite quickly though it took another 12h after that for ds to be born. Best of
Luck!

Ilovenannyplum Fri 15-May-15 09:33:52

15th May sounds like a good day to be born!
I hope that your no doubt gorgeous little one doesn't keep you waiting much longer smile

I mumsnetted through my early labour, nobody in RL knew what was happening (I couldn't deal with the texts every 2 minutes asking if baby was here yet) and I found it very therapeutic to have people to talk to

MrsKCG Fri 15-May-15 12:27:59

Thanks ladies!!! Down to 5-6 minutes but now I've been told to call back when they're 3-4

Walking seemed to help so just gonna have some lunch and see what happens next. Although they now seem to be spreading out again

happygojo Fri 15-May-15 13:02:58

Hello! I am pregnant with my first so no advice really, but listen to your instincts. I just heard a story of a woman whose contractions never made it to 3-4 mins. She insisted on going to hospital for assessment and was 9cm! they barely had time to fill the birthing pool before she had her little boy! Not saying this will happen to you but if your gut tells you that you need to be at the hospital then go. Good luck! xxx

Jenny1231990 Fri 15-May-15 14:37:35

Bless you, are you far from the hospital??. If stay away from baths too as apparently this can also slow things down according to my midwife.
I called when I was having contractions every 2-3minutes i didn't live far from the hospital and by time we got here they were every minute, got there at 7 and she was here by 10past. I'm now 40+3 and other than a bit of back ache I've had nothing.
Things are going in the right direction. Eat little and often, walk up and down the stairs.
Eek you'll have your lovely baby in your arms soon enough. All the best
