Hi Wonder if anyone knows lastest advice on silver amalgum fillings whilst pregnant. I had cavity in january but my dentist refused to touch due to mercury risk. I was happy with this event though hole now bigger and possible root treatment needed. I've had my baby so now booked ion for filling. However my friend 31wks had silver filling removed yesterday and new one inserted. She is now having panic. Can anyone reassure her. Is it just that some dentist err on cautions side. Know it's due to risk of mercury but unsure how big a risk.

My dentist said it was a load of codswallop that you couldn't have them done. It's obviously down to individual dentists whether they do it or not.

Hi that's what I thought. I actually used to be dental nurse (haven't for last 8 years) and we always did them unless patient asked us not to.
Oh well tomorrow I go for my root treatment which may of been avoided or at least done sooner.
Apparently at that practice they also don't like to give you local anaethetic (SP?) if breast feeding!!! EEEEEK

Well I've had all of my silver fillings removed and replaced with white fillings a few years ago because I wanted to be safe. I must say, I don't get that awful metallic taste that I sometimes used to get before. (Ignoring that awful metallic taste through the first 4 months of pregnancy of course!!!)
