Heya all

Im so sorry to come on here whinging yet again! Brief history for those who havnt seen my previous posts on the subject. I had DS 4 yrs ago, wasnt a great pregnancy, had ovarian cyst removed at 16 weeks, then was in and out with kidney infections, then my nan died, then he was born by c/s at 31 weeks due to severe pre-eclampsiaand IGUR. After he was delivered I had an eclamptic fit and went into a coma, they eventually diagnosed cerebal odeama, mild stroke, pregnancy induced hypertension and told my family if I made it I would most certainly be in a wheelchair.

Anyway 4 years later, I defeated the odds I am avery healthy 24 yr old. My ds spent 29 days in SCBU was born weighing 2lb, came home weighing 4lb! We did great.

His dad left us, I met someone new, we have suffered 4 miscarraiges, (i had one late loss before ds) and I was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden.

Now 25 weeks pregnant had a uterine doppler scan yesterday and it showed up I have large notches (off the scale big on one side) So I am now extremely high risk of going through all this again!

I put a brave face on yesterday for DP and DS but today I have worried and fretted all day. Im so scared. I have managed to get my hospital changed and we will now have the baby in Cardiff (which is a 30-40 min drive depending on traffic!) but I dont mind that the hospital I was under didnt seem to care tbh.

I am aware that it may not happen again but I cant stop myself from worrying! My DP is terrified already that he is going to lose me, so the last thing I want to do is fall into his arms crying when he gets home tonight from work.

I have been in touch with APEC and the appt I had was with one of their experts yesterday, she was lovely and said she would be more than happy to see me through till the end but thats in bristol and is a 2 hour drive away! Not really practical!

Ive been referred to a Dr Nigel Davies at the heath in Cardiff, does anyone know him or see him?

thanks

julez I have no experience of this but did have a fairly horrifc time of it when dd was born, nothing like you though!

I guess the fact that they know in advance this time of the potential risk has to be a good thing.

I'm so sorry you've had such horrible experiences . I don't really have anything to add but my good wishes. Someone did tell me that folic acid (taking all through pg) can help pre-eclampsia - I don't think that is based on any medical fact though.

I also think you need to talk to your DP - he sounds like a very caring and supportive person - pg is never easy at the best of times and quite stressful but carrying this extra burden will just make it more stressful. He will probably be relieved that you are talking.

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time with another pregnancy, but forewarned is forearmed I guess. What do you mean your hospital didn't care? Surely you're now in very high risk category?

Sorry I'm probably being thick - what are notches?

julezboo,

I'm sorry that you are having a tough time now. I don't know anything about your situation, but you need to lean on your dp. That's what they are there for. You shouldn't carry you're worries alone. Just know that you aren't alone.

the notches indicate my body is working extremely hard to pump blood to my baby

My consulant hadnt recieved my notes from my old hospital 200 miles away so i guess he thought I was exagerating, wouldnt see me until i reach 30 weeks. Told me I wasnt high risked till something happened!

Me and DP will talk tonight I guess, I just dont want to be a blubbering mess anymore, seems Ive spent alot of this pregnancy crying

if he has;t seen your notes...he has no idea of the risk...

i thought factor v leiden, previous pre eclampsa / eclampsia, IUGR and prematurity automatically made you high risk!!!!! nonwithstanding your miscarriages.......

can your GP or midwife write or speak to consultant and bring the severity of what happened previously too his attention....

so sorry...wish could say more......xxxxxx

Oh Julez

Sorry to hear all this, you were a great help to me after last m/c.
Try and reamin calm you could be worrying when everything will be fine.
Is there anyone you can talk to face to face-evne hospital councellor, sister, mum-just to get everything off your chest regulary, Of course we don't mind either.

I would also talk to dp -no point you bottling it up. Sounds like you have some good care with APEC waht if you see them every 3-4 weeks or something and also see Dr Davies.
Best Wishes to you dp and ds.

Julez

I've had PE in a previous pregnancy before and for them to say that you're not high risk now seems very odd. If I were you I'd ring APEC again and talk them through the situation. Could the consultant you saw in Bristol contact the consultant you've now been referred to? I take it your baby was looking correctly sized in spite of the doppler? I think I would be asking for regular scans and weekly midwife checks as a minimum in view of your last scan. Can I also recommend that you post on the APEC forum as there are lots of people there who've been in the same situation as you.

HTH and good luck

Hello Julezboo

So sorry you're having a traumatic time of all this.

I have no experience of Nigel Davies but my best mate has seen him on many an occasion and says he is lovely - just the right balance of approachable and professional.

Personally, I have only good things to say of the Heath. They were marvellous when I had DD and I have been back there time and time again for gynae issues and am happy to recommend.

Sorry not to be much help, but heaps of positive thoughts.
