As if I have just been to the shops for some late night snacks (feeling ravenous) and there is a lady outside the shop with a man, she is quite heavily pregnant and clearly smoking a joint of cannabis! Im really angry! To think of the people who miscarry or cannot concieve! I feel sick to my stomach, rotten!

Absolute dirtbag Angry

MorgansMummy24 · 22/04/2015 22:30

I know I'm so angry I can't calm down, didn't know where else to share this just wanted a rant, I wish I could report her to social services

If you know her I would

Charis1 · 22/04/2015 22:44

it cause damage to the nervous system in unborn children, as well as in babies and children exposed to it after birth as well, including problems like ADHD, ASD, etc

22Dee · 22/04/2015 23:12

each to their own... not anyones business but hers

Charis1 · 22/04/2015 23:26

each to their own... not anyones business but hers

That is not true, she will be damaging her child, who will have to live with the damage, and other children in the same class at school will have to live with the disruption, and tax payers are likely to have to fund benefits, etc both for mother and child, possibly for many decades to come, if the child is damaged enough to need life long care.

TinyMonkey · 22/04/2015 23:26

To think of the people who miscarry or cannot concieve

Oh give over.

Bear in mind that you have no idea what her life is like or why she thinks it's ok to smoke weed whilst pregnant. It's not great, but maybe she's doing the best she can.

Koalafications · 22/04/2015 23:28

Oh honestly! Hmm

Charis1 · 22/04/2015 23:44

What? committing a crime while damaging your child's central nervous system for purely selfish reasons might be doing the best she can? No it isn't. No one thinks it is ok to smoke weed while they are pregnant.

sarkymare · 23/04/2015 00:10

Charis can you link your source?

GraysAnalogy · 23/04/2015 00:15

I hate all this pitying bollocks in which we try to make these actions seem okay 'oh we don't know what her life is like, she's having hard time, bless her she's doing the best she can'.

No.

Sorry but no.

We could use that sort of rhetoric for anyone doing anything wrong, but we don't. Because it isn't acceptable.

GraysAnalogy · 23/04/2015 00:18
Debinaround · 23/04/2015 00:37

I don't care what is going on in her life. There is no way a pregnant woman thinks it's ok to smoke a joint. She is not doing the best she can, she is smoking drugs while pregnant. She couldn't do much worse.

Fucking disgrace. Angry

MummyPiggy87 · 23/04/2015 00:57

That is disgusting. How can there be people on here defending her ** maybe she's doing the best she can?!
It doesn't matter how bad you life is or has been, that baby in her belly hasn't asked to be conceived!! People have had terrible lives but still choose to protect their babies and not knowingly damage them before they're even born!!
There's no excuse for it whatsoever, discusting!!! AngryAngry

fattymcfatfat · 23/04/2015 01:18

fucking sick. hate this. why would you knowingly harm your unborn baby?! Angry and before anyone says she might not know, pretty sure midwives or other HCP would have told her

RuddyHellItsSoftCell · 23/04/2015 01:26

Some of the least mn-y usernames I've ever seen on a thread.

I can see why it can seem a cop out to say 'don't judge, you're only getting a snapshot of this woman's life... Blah blah blah'

But....

I honestly don't know what it's like to grow up with different values, education, self-worth, self-esteem, self-confidence, love etc to that which I have known, so although I can say that is appalling behaviour by my standards, I can't honestly judge somebody I know nothing about. I can judge the behaviour, but not the person

KneeQuestion · 23/04/2015 02:02

it cause damage to the nervous system in unborn children, as well as in babies and children exposed to it after birth as well, including problems like ADHD, ASD, etc

Autism and ADHD caused by babies/children being exposed to weed?

Bullshit.

newbian · 23/04/2015 02:54

And yet there are loads of threads here where I've seen MNers vehemently argue that it's OK for them to drink alcohol in moderation in pregnancy. I abstain from drinking and obviously wouldn't use drugs either, but if you read about the health effects of alcohol vs. cannabis, alcohol is more damaging. Remember Dr. Nutt on the government drugs panel was sacked for saying so! So unless you are equally disgusted when your middle class friends drink champagne at weddings while pregnant, this is hypocritical to me.

Kiwiinkits · 23/04/2015 03:00

FFS a half glass of wine or champagne WILL NOT damage a foetus. Any more than a liqueur chocolate or rum-ball or brandy soaked pudding will. Or, for that matter, rubbing your hands with alcohol based sanitiser.

newbian · 23/04/2015 03:09

Kiwiinkits and one joint will? You have evidence of this?

lemon101 · 23/04/2015 05:47

OK while I can't get on board with all the 'outraged' stuff, since as many people have pointed out we don't know her circumstances and life can be incredibly tough for some - the medical literature does suggest adverse outcomes with cannabis use. Just read a couple of abstracts from nature and the lancet and there is an association with low birth weight, developmental delay and some cognitive impairment. It's worth bearing in mind as well that a woman who is engaging in risky behavior such as this is unlikely to be eating and looking after herself in the same way as other people might. There is a greater chance she has other substance abuse issues too. It's very difficult to account for that sort of thing in the analysis. I'm not denying the impact of cannabis use I'm just saying the direct effects can be tricky to separate from other lifestyle effects.

Charis1 · 23/04/2015 05:50

Autism and ADHD caused by babies/children being exposed to weed?

Yes kneequestion. this may be an inconvenient truth to you, but you not liking it doesn't make it any less true.

Cassie258 · 23/04/2015 06:06

Smoking cannabis isn't breaking the law. Being under the influence isn't breaking the law. Having it in your possession is but that alone won't harm the baby.

How do you know she was smoking cannabis? Perhaps she was smoking a roll up and her boyfriend was smoking cannabis.

I believe most of the adverse affects of smoking cannabis during pregnancy are due to the tobacco and are the same as 'normal' smoking with some small added risks. None of which are proven.

I had a friend who smoked cannabis while pregnant. I did find it disgusting but then I feel the same about any amount of alcohol or smoking while pregnant.

Amyyy27 · 23/04/2015 06:34

I can't believe there are people defending this. After miscarrying last year i would never ever ever risk ANYTHING that could potentially cause harm to my baby for my own selfish needs/wants, there is no excuse whatsoever for it.

Feckeggblue · 23/04/2015 06:39

I wouldn't have thought it's that bad actually. Do any of the posters know or just getting all pearl clutchy because it's drugs?
Clearly depends how much she smokes though
