anyone had extreme, debilitating nausea but no sickness?

at 12 weeks i'm starting to feel better but i have been really suffering since 5 weeks. i felt constantly, horribly nauseous and so dizzy, it was 24/7 and exhausting. the room would spin if i stood up and i couldn't do anything, signed off work etc.

the thing is that i find it very hard to describe to people who haven't experienced it, as people know how badly some women suffer with HG but often haven't heard of how difficult it can be to have what i've had- nausea but no sickness.

if you say morning sickness people think actual sickness, and if you say you weren't sick just nauseous it somehow sounds like you could have gone on with life, feeing a bit bleuch- i really couldn't have gone on with normal life!

i find it really difficult to not have the understanding of what i've been through- can anyone relate to this?

I had the same with my daughter but not my son. Ended up having meds from the doctor that are used to combat nausea in people having chemo. It was awful. Thankfully it was my second pregnancy. If it had been my first I probably wouldn't have had more children as I could not have done it again!

Hopefully the worst of it is behind you. Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy.

Totally can sympathise with you op. I was signed off work from week 6 to week 16, and only went back to work as I felt I had no other choice. Didn't stop feeling sick until about week 20. I was sick, but only a handful of times each week. I definitely suffered more from the nausea and dizzy feeling. Literally couldn't get out of bed. Be kind to yourself and try not to fee guilty, although I know easier said than done. Xx

dani i was offered meds and probably stupidly was scared to take them, i'd had cramping and bleeding and i kind of wanted to keep track of the nausea level, as it would be an indicator that all was ok? i actually had exactly the same with my first daughter so was dreading going through it again and yep- just the same. thanks for sharing and the kind words.

I had the same, horrible nausea for about 8 weeks. Only threw up once or twice but couldn't eat most days. When people asked I called it nausea and food aversion because it described it slightly better.

I started a thread about something similar. This pregnancy has been awful for me. Loads of nausea, dizzy, bloating and just feeling much rougher than my first pregnancy.
I'm the same as you, not actually throwing up like I imagine HG is like. But the nausea is a real struggle. I haven't told anyone at work, but I'm finding is so hard to disguise how bad I feel. Luckily I work on my own a lot.
Here's hoping it doesn't last much longer. Although I'm only 8 weeks and this is my 3rd week of feeling ill, and so far it's getting worse rather than better

Yes, with my daughter. Horrible non stop nausea, very little actual vomit.

I was finally prescribed zofran/odansetron.

gunshot food aversion is definitely part of it. sorry you had such a horrible time too.

sleepybunny will try find your thread. so sorry it's been awful for you. i actually got worse at 8 weeks so you may be similar to me- started to feel a bit better at 11 then at 12 weeks on the dot i felt distinctly more human. it will get better i promise.

cheerful sounds horrible too- they do say it's worse with girls!

I had this with first. It was terrible, I lost nearly a stone despite never actually vomiting. but it passed by 16 weeks. Returned at about 37 weeks. It was no where near as bad with my second. Now with my third I've had little nausea but some random vomiting!

twolittlepenguins · 15/04/2015 14:58

that sounds bad bonzo poor you. i think i've lost weight too though i don't own scales. sounds like your 3rd is going to be a little easier.. fingers crossed for you.

I'm 19 weeks and my nausea only stopped around week 16. I was put on Cyclicine as I couldn't function, it was awful. I come rely understand where your coming from as it's easier to explain vomiting constantly. I had no sickness just mind numbing nausea, plus I'm pregnant with twins which apparently makes it doubly worse. It does get better but I feel your pain.

I only ended up gaining 11 pounds throughout my entire pregnancy with her, and she was 9lbs 6 oz of it!

I am going through thus right now. The worst for me is that my husbsnd doesnt understand how awful I feel (i was given the suggestion to take 4 year old DS for a walk, as it would help us both...???!!!!). I am also taking medication to combat but its only helping so so. I did not have this level if nausea with my first child. Its relentless. Im 9 weeks and hoping it will ease off soon. The past three weeks have been unbearable. I think it is hard for people to understand if they've never experienced it.

8 weeks here - it's fecking awful isn't it? Currently on my third week signed off work, downing phenargen like life depends on it and rushing I could be put in a medically induced coma until the middle of the second trimester Grin
I was actually sick today and felt strangely validated - it's so hard to convey just how awful relentless nausea is!

I had this. Awful, awful nausea I just had to lay as still as possible from 6-12 weeks, couldn't work or function. It continued until up until 32 weeks when it magically disappeared. I didn't vomit once but used to heave all the time, it was grim. Had totally put me off doing it again!

it's so reassuring to hear others have been through similar (though i'm so sorry you've all suffered like this).

24hour and knitfast so sorry to hear you're going through it now. i hope you are ok, just take one day at a time and i promise it will get better. i remember one thing i had was a major fear that it would never get better, as it was so gripping and relentless, i knew logically that was mad but it felt like that was my world forever.

superworm the having to lie down and not being able to work or function totally sounds like me, though my goodness i'm horrified it went on until 32 weeks. that sounds awful and so unlucky, so sorry for you.

i think for most people no matter how AWFUL it is it does usually get better after the first trimester. hold on to that thought ladies. x

Me too with both. Horrible nausea like the worlds worst hangover if I wasn't constantly eating. Work was hellish. In a teacher so couldn't snack in the class. I remember thinking I was going to pass out at my desk and the kids all asking if I was ok.

24hour I'm sorry your h doesn't get it - mine was a bit sceptical at first but he's seen just how ill and weak I am and is now being amazing. I honestly had no idea it could be this bad without actually requiring hospitalisation and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!

I know what pp mean about it never ending - I can't really remember what it was like NOT to feel like this Sad And so when I imagine having my baby, I imagine feeling like this, but having to cope with a newborn - and although I know that's u likely it shares the hell out of me

rosey sounds AWFUL can't believe you managed to work like that

knitfast hang on in there. so glad your dh is being understanding. it must be weird for them too.. i know what you mean, you never imagine just how bad it can be. when you have a newborn yes you'll be exhausted but you won't have this awful nausea, you really won't, so it will be completely different. (and amazing Smile)

I'm 10 weeks and suffering with 24/7 nausea as well. I had HG in my last pregnancy and was admitted to hospital on numerous occasions, but once on the right medication seemed to get it under control. Bi have been prescribed cyclizine this item but it does not seem to be helping with the nausea. Please can I ask what meds have worked for you for the nausea?

Same here...
It's awful, isn't it? Did not experience anything like that in my previous pregnancy.
As I don't work on some days I find it extremely difficult to perform the daily functions - dishes, dinner and such like. I'm meant to be revising for my last degree exams - find it impossible at the moment :-( The constant question in my mind is whether I'm just lazy and should not just get over it.
The worst - it started half way through holidays in Egypt. Now mere mention of a pyramid makes me feel sick.
I'd rather glow.

I had terrible nausea and food aversion for weeks but did not throw up once. My mother was the same so guess it runs in the family. I'm 13+6 now and haven't gained any weight since BFP - which is an improvement as a few weeks ago I was down several pounds.
