Her big brother will kindly contribute a 6 year old bugaboo, a third hand sling and a cot requiring a new mattress .....

..... But even so that's a pretty poor show with ten weeks to go!

Anybody want to chat baby kit?

I've just commented on another thread about buying things.
I'm 19 weeks, and so far the baby has a hat. I can't bloody wait to start shopping. I'm surprised at how much I've enjoyed looking at baby stuff so far. I really didn't think it would be my thing, but I think I'm going to need help to not by every baby product in the world ever!

Have you got a list of things you want / need yet? I suppose that's a good start.
I'm currently obsessed with prams. Which bugaboo do you have? We fancy a buffalo but also like the jane trider.

Artandco · 29/03/2015 19:34

That's fine. Tbh add some sleep suits and reusable nappies to your list and I think that's virtually all we bought ours full stop!

They didn't even have the sheep! Oh but we did buy a sheepskin rug for them to lay on/ sleep/ play

NakedBaby · 29/03/2015 19:38

The bugaboo is a chameleon - third hand - but I replaced the front wheels recently - and it is very cosy for a newborn.

Main thing I feel I must commit to is a car seat. (unless I want to get the bus home from hospital!). I was pretty set on an ERF cybex - but DH thinks it will dwarf my Fiesta and make it hard to fit the other two DC in the back. At some point we'll go to a bigger car - so maybe I'll get an infant carrier for the first instance, and buy a long term seat later even though I know it's a money waste .

Eek!
Still 3 months to go here, (DS2)..and have recently purchased a new connecta sling, a Chicco next 2 me bedside cot, a 2nd hand sleepyhead mattress, a cuddly dinosaur and a pair of dungarees. Still pondering buggy (also have an ancient bugaboo cameleon, can't decide if to replace it, get a double, or what!) Not looking forward to digging out all of DS1s stuff from the attic as I know it's very disorganised and I need to find all the newborn clothes, breast pump, bottles, steriliser, bedding, etc etc!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 29/03/2015 19:40

26 weeks here and my baby has 3 sleepsuits and a totally impractical summer dress Smile

NakedBaby · 29/03/2015 19:47

Art - it's a Ewan Dream Sheep.

I have great hopes for it being a step up from a White noise app and my phone annexed by the baby .

IAmAPaleontologist · 29/03/2015 19:50

Sounds good. You have somewhere to sleep and something to carry him in. Get some nappies, you got boobs? sorted.

might need some clothes after spending the first few days down your top but that's what relatives and friends buy as presents isn't it?

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 29/03/2015 21:19

Ooh Ewan is a god in our house. Still use him at 16 months.

Maya15 · 29/03/2015 21:23

22 weeks and my baby has one pair of socks, a hat and one outfit.
Better get shopping soon Grin

weeblueberry · 29/03/2015 22:54

I'm due last Thursday and only bought 2 vests today. Granted she's our second so loads from the first DD but I feel a bit bad at not getting her more of her own stuff. I'm just reluctant to do it without seeing what size she is (DD was teensy) and we will get her more of her own stuff when she's here. Less panic to do it early this time round.

We're also looking at a horrendously overpriced baby rocker thing because DP has fallen in love with it Envy

aneesa28 · 30/03/2015 03:05

weeblueberry The mamaroo? I bit the bullet at the chance to get 15% off mid February! It was a no-brainer since I love gadgets. That and the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature steriliser starter kit in black. Have yet to decide on a car seat and pram...

weeblueberry · 30/03/2015 11:57

Yep it's the Mamaroo!! DP saw it on display in M&P yesterday and although we smiled nicely at the woman demonstrating it he muttered 'well that's a gimmick!!' On the way out.

Then he got home and researched it and decided we need one. Grin

theaveragebear1983 · 30/03/2015 14:39

Having my 3rd and I've got everything for boy or girl, so this time I'm buying 'luxuries' such as one of those baby formula 'tassimo' machines and a better quality baby monitor. I've also bought some nicer, more expensive maternity clothes this time round as I don't have the huge list of stuff to buy, and I can't wait to get all the baby clothes from the loft for the last time!

Cybex ERF is brilliant for 6m+ but an infant carrier is better for a newborn IMHO.

Artandco · 30/03/2015 17:15

Pata - Cybex does a newborn insert to add into sirona that makes it great from birth. It's even one recommended for prem babies with the insert

Christelle2207 · 30/03/2015 17:18

My 2nd son is arriving in 7 weeks. W have bought him a co-sleeper cot, as his brother hated the basket....and nothing else. He will be having his brother's stuff!
We have however treated ourselves to a bigger car!

33goingon64 · 30/03/2015 17:39

Crikey I assumed OP was a first timer - expecting DC2 in 16 weeks and wasn't banking on having to buy anything new. Got masses of unisex clothes (didn't find out sex either time), muslins, moses basket with sheets, playmat, bouncy chair, bottles. Will get new teats and nappies - that's it.

Marchhairy · 30/03/2015 19:39

34 weeks here with number 2 and after some pains yesterday today I bought some nappies! Rest of the stuff is either lent out and we are waiting for it back or on the loft. I was thinking I might buy a sling once baby is here after a visit to a sling library.
Poor neglected 2nd child!

Pisghetti · 30/03/2015 20:31

I found out yesterday you can hire first stage car seats from NCT. Bit late as I had already paid out for a Britax ERF seat and a maxicosi cabriofix to go on the pram in the early months - I'd have hired the latter if I'd known.

zipzap · 30/03/2015 20:47

When we were expecting ds1 the only thing that we bought reasonably in advance was a lovely soft Noah's Ark toy that had lots of little soft animals inside. Didn't buy anything else until close to the time - apart from the pram and car seat, which we ordered in reasonable time and didn't turn up until after he was born.

DS2 - I bought him one new cute babygro outfit and a new mattress for the cot, but that was about it I think!

Oh and ds1 ended up being called Noah Grin - has your sheep got a name yet that might help influence your dd's name?!?!

movingalot · 30/03/2015 21:16

Similar to others - DC2 (allegedly DD2) is due in 6 weeks and we have bought only a Cocoonababy (wasn't around when had DD1) and an Ergo as I didn't get on with the Baby Bjorn. Have washed and have ready to go all DD1's sleep suits etc but I think this baby will be bigger so might not need her teensy stuff.

Oh, and a couple of little outfits for the summer as DD1 was a winter baby Blush. Nappies and breastmilk storage bags. New teats in case she needs a bottle. And a load of crap for my hospital bag.... OK seems like a lot now....

36 weeks with baby number 1. We've bought a few sleep suits, a pack of vests, a small pack of nappies and some water wipes.
Need to pull my finger out and get the necessities covered but the weeks are dragging so slowly I keep telling myself I have tons of time left to get everything sorted! Grin

SolidGoldBrass · 30/03/2015 23:08

I didn't buy much till I was about 35 weeks, but my mother kept acquiring more cuddly toys and 'ooh I saw this' things like an inflatable baby bath and a changing mat... and I got deluged with baby clothes from about 4 different sources.
The only thing I would really say is: even if you're going to go for cloth nappies, get a couple of packs of newborn disposables as cloth nappies aren't much cop for a teeny weeny newborn.

(Drat you all BTW as I am feeling all broody now. WHich is daft as I am menopausal.)

LittleBairn · 31/03/2015 08:07

SGB my mum claims the menopause has made her frustratingly broody. She is so glad to be having a grandchild soon to remind her of all the bad bits. Grin

Well I'm due any day, as an ex nanny I know the type of stuff I am more likely to use but even that hasn't stopped the avalanche of baby stuff.

Transport: Bugaboo Cam 3 & Maxi Cosi Car seat

Sleeping: Amby nest. Snuzza baby breathing monitor.
Considering a co-sleeer cot too we will wait till she is born then see how we feel.

Changing: changing table, defintely a marmite item but I really like them. The way to get their worth out of them is to keep it downstairs or wherever you will be sending the most time.
Changing mat, nappy bucket, Cloth prefolds, lots of Motherease sandies, wras, cloth wipes. I also have 2 packs of water wipes & disposable nappies for the early days.

Slings: ring sling and a stretchy borrowed from a friend.

Clothes: mostly all sleepsuits, vests, hats in white/cream and bright colours. I was trying to be strict with not going OTT, but the grannies couldn't help themselves.

Blankets: 1 large Aden & Anais, 1 fleece, 4 swaddles.
I didn't want to buy to many as I've always found people have mountains of blankets that never get used.
Unless we have a refluxy baby in which case I will buy more.

BF stuff: lanoshin cream, bf bras and boob pads.

I have bought 90% of my stuff 2nd hand I'm pleased at the savings we have made, I wish I had kept a total.
But even with the Bugaboo I reckon I have spent around £700-800.
