When did you buy your first baby thing?

I am 11 weeks today and went shopping with my mum and very nearly bought my baby's first outfit. However... I didn't want to somehow jinx it... So, bought nothing (ok not nothing I bought myself a nightshirt).

So, when did you buy your first baby thing?

xx

I'm 19 weeks and I'm waiting for about 30 weeks, everyone's different but for me il do it about then I think. Unless I see an absolute too good to miss bargain.

DandelionWishes88 · 29/03/2015 17:26

Im 10+2 and have been window shopping with the hubby. Looked at prams and furniture and a few clothes but not bought anything yet. Think I will after the first scan I just hate waiting x

TinyMonkey · 29/03/2015 17:26

I bought a little hat after my 12 week scan. Everything else I got around the 30 week mark or when I got a bargain on eBay.

Feckeggblue · 29/03/2015 17:28

About 26 weeks. I wanted to buy a little outfit go celebrate the 20 week scan; DH wouldn't. Then at about 26 weeks someone else bought us something and he was upset

rubyred84 · 29/03/2015 18:11

I have my 20 week scan at the end of next week, so will be buying after that. but so far, haven't bought anything. I'm having twins and have been told not to wait too long as I may be too uncomfortable to enjoy picking things out!

scatterbrainedlass · 29/03/2015 18:13

I bought the cot & mattress at about 7 weeks. It was on a huge discount, don't judge me!! Haha

Guyropes · 29/03/2015 18:19

About three years before I had my first child! I got a beautiful woven baby sling when on holiday in the Far East.

This time I waited til about 16 weeks to get some little things. Actually I don't think shopping jinxes things at all. It's just about living with the items you bought if things do go wrong. It must be extremely hard to live with a nursery full of kit in the case of a late miscarriage/stillbirth. But a special baby grow or toy bought for that baby could be a keepsake in case of miscarriage.

Gillian1980 · 29/03/2015 18:25

I bought one baby grow immediately and then waited until the 12 week scan. I'm 19 weeks now and have bought most of what we need, just a few bits and bobs left.
The main thing for us was to spread the cost out over several weeks then once we have everything we can start saving money to help with maternity leave.

Superexcited · 29/03/2015 19:23

I haven't bought anything yet (currently 11 weeks) but I have been tempted by cute babygros on several occasions. I am going to buy a babygro or blanket after my 12 week scan.

Frolicacid · 29/03/2015 19:24

I'm 19 weeks and have only bought a hat so far. I really don't think that anything you buy or don't buy will change the outcome of your pregnancy. I do agree with the poster up thread who mentioned living with all of the stuff you buy if something goes wrong. That's why we're waiting until after the 20 week scan, possibly longer.
I have, however, done A LOT of window shopping and online browsing. All of the fun of choosing without parting with any cash yet.

I am 12+2 and haven't bought anything yet - but just because I haven't had time. I would like to buy something little to start getting excited as I don't really believe I'm growing a baby at the moment! I worry about jinxing things usually but I'm not worried with this, I don't believe that me buying a babygro will affect the health of my baby. Just need to find the time to go and look at baby stuff!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 29/03/2015 19:48

After my 20 week scan. I don't buy into the 'jinxing it' thing as what will be will be. We just didn't have the space to have things hanging around the house (and actually moved back to the Uk from abroad at 24 weeks). I bought a pram suit after the 20 week scan then nothing really til about 30 weeks. This baby (currently 26 weeks pregnant) only has 3 sleep suits and a dress so far.

sianihedgehog · 29/03/2015 19:49

First pregnancy I bought a little toy at about 6 weeks, and then miscarried at 10.5 weeks. Don't regret it at all, it's insane to think that it somehow caused it, and I had a bit of real joy buying it. I put it away after the miscarriage.
This time around I waited until just after the 12 week scan, and bought two little outfits. I've put them away with the toy, and a few other things, and made the sad miscarriage box into a happy baby box, full of little things for this baby.

And we've just ordered the pram, at 21 weeks.

VikingLady · 29/03/2015 20:07

First time around I waited until we had the results of the 12w scan, then bought a babygro set for the baby's first outfit. That's when we gave the green light to relatives to buy stuff too.

Second time I saw a fantastic skeleton babygro, newborn size, in a clearance sale and bought it the day I got a bfp. I used it to tell DH! (Showed it to him and waited for the truth to dawn)

I'm a lot more relaxed this time Grin

boatrace30 · 29/03/2015 20:07

After 20 week scan. Have since been buying things bit by bit to spread the cost and as I see good bargains

TheSingingMonkey · 29/03/2015 20:12

We waited until the 20 week scan, just incase of bad news. Wasn't very organised, got my pram delivered the day before I want into labour!

Pigriver · 29/03/2015 23:19

At 15 weeks I bought a baby gro for DHs birthday that said 'I love daddy'. I have picked up a few bits over the last 2 weeks (now 17 weeks) but people bought bits for baby for DH and my birthday.

Stinkersmum · 30/03/2015 05:21

I've bought nothing yet (10+6) and won't be buying anything for a long long time yet. Probably well into 30 weeks.

Caillou · 30/03/2015 05:47

28 weeks here today, I haven't bought anything yet, but then it is dc2

skinnylegs33 · 30/03/2015 13:21

21.5 weeks. There was a 50% sale at mamas & papas last week and bought a few winter outfits. It felt so good! Blush

changingagain · 30/03/2015 13:40

I bought a cuddly elephant at about 10 weeks. My thinking was that if the worst happened, I would like having something small of the babies to put away with the scan photos.

I'm 18 weeks tomorrow and this weekend DH and I went looking at the various larger pieces and have started making a list of the things we have decided we will get. We've said we wont buy anything else until at least 25 weeks but I'm inpatient and like to be prepared so we may well end up buying things after the 20 week scan.

I also already have a box of hats, baby grows, cardigans, bibs and toys that DM has knitted and bought.

I'm 8 weeks today and haven't bought anything, mainly because I want to wait until my 12 week scan, not that I think it will affect. Secondly we are not going to find out what the baby's sex it, and although i've looked at clothes on line, the unisex stuff is naff! I'll wait and buy a few bits closer to the time but I'll wait until I have the baby to buy most of the clothes, plus I have two sisters that are really excited and I know will buy me loads of clothes once the baby is here. Smile

weelamb123 · 30/03/2015 16:31

We bought our pram at 15 weeks and only because it was on sale and the offer was too good to miss. But totally paranoid after buying it and it's now in my brothers house cos I didnt want it in the house. I'm now almost 24 weeks and only other things we bought is the steriliser, bottles and some baby grows. Xx

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 30/03/2015 19:17

I'm 18+3 and was planning to wait until my 20 week scan to start buying things. But compared to a lot of the posters, even 20 weeks now seems quite early?! It's my first baby, so I've got lots to buy. I don't want to start buying things too early but I've had quite a lot of friends who for whatever reason suddenly couldn't buy things after about week 30 (bed rest, spd, premature birth etc.) Was leaving things too late not a concern for other posters?
