Just found out I'm pregnant last week So I'm now 5-6 weeks. Been having mild, period type cramps ever since then which I understand is fairly normal. Also been feelig bloated and tender around my stomach like I've got an inflatable ball inside me under my ribs. Also feeling a bit faint and light headed. Is all of this normal? How long will this last? Should I check with the doctor? (No bleeding or anything).

lulumama Fri 27-Oct-06 14:59:04

tis all normal.....some women experience the early syptoms of pregnancy more strongly than others... there are massive hormonal changes going on within your body ...

make sure you eat well...rest if you can and look after yourself....

cramping & tummy pains are to be expected...but any bleeding / spotting combined with pain should be invevstigated..

sounds like all is fine ....

Mumpbump Fri 27-Oct-06 15:02:26

Go to the doctor's. It will put your mind at rest, if nothing else. I had a m/c recently which started with light bleeding and then what I thought were period pains (didn't know I was pg) which got quite painful. Only twigged that it might be a m/c because the way they came and went reminded me a bit of labour... Can't be too careful if you ask me! Once you're further into the pregnancy, you'll know what's normal for you.

Hi Discodolly

I'm 6wks too and I have been getting bad stomach cramps too, sometimes waking me up in the middle of the night. I think it is just your uterus expanding, apparently by 7 wks it had grown twice the size! (DH has been reading the pregnancy books at work!) That's a lot of growing so no wonder it's painful!

I get quite uncomfortable sitting around for a long time. It's not as bad as it was last week though, so maybe it's easing off - now the nausea has started!

ShowOfBloodyAndSeveredHands Fri 27-Oct-06 19:15:55

Congratulations on your pg Discodolly! All very normal, I had cramps from about weeks 4 to 8, just like period pain. I'm 11wks now and the cramps have stopped. I think feeling faint, light-headed, nauseous, hungry, thirsty, constipated, needing the loo, strange dreams, odd cramps, mood swings, odd cravings, strange tastes are only some of the common symptoms of early pg!

All good fun, huh? Hope you have a happy, healthy nine months.

lemonAIIEEE Fri 27-Oct-06 19:16:55

All very normal. Congratulations!

Discodolly100 Mon 30-Oct-06 08:42:51

Thank you all for your kind advice it's very reassuring

bunny75 Mon 30-Oct-06 09:13:08

CONGRATS....just to say I had the same thing in early weeks too. its something to do with the 'implantation' of the embryo into the lining of your womb, and can cause cramping and even some spotting......i hope i'm right there.....am sure thats what i was told!!! anyway, as others have said, totally normal

I have just found out i'm 5 weeks pregnant after trying for nearly two years. But find it really hard to get excited as i am experience pains in my stomach not in one place but all over. No bleeding as yet. Had a miscarriage two years ago and worried the same thing is going to happen. They have been continuous for the last week but have eased off abit today. Has anyone else experienced this at the beginning of their pregnancy and did all end well. Got an appointment coming through for the early pregnancy unit for a scan but really scared its going to be bad news please help love to hear from anyone who has any advise.Jules

hi jules, i dont have any wise words for you, but having read your post just wanted to say I hope all goes well. I too have just found out im prg. I am around 6 and a half weeks i think. There is an antenatal thread for ladies due in jan , it is under the New Year thread, im sure you will get lots of support from knowledgable people if you post on there.
Goodluck sweetie x

CountTo10 Sun 03-Jun-07 22:49:17

I'm just over 5 weeks and Ive had pains like this. Also had it with my first pg. It's a mixture of the uterus expanding and moving things out of the way and the surrounding ligaments etc helping it to stretch out. If you're concerned go to the docs but it should start easing off. Btw there is a feb thread going as well just in case you've sneaked into Feb like me!!!

aikigypsy Sun 03-Jun-07 23:02:19

Congratulations, I hope everything goes well for you.

Cramps are totally normal, in my very limited experience, but you're supposed to go into total panic mode with bright red bleeding.

W.r.t. the lightheadedness -- sometimes it's because you're getting dehydrated. In the early weeks of pregnancy your blood volume starts increasing like crazy, and it's a lot easier to get dehydrated. Drink more water, it should help.

MamaMaiasaura Sun 03-Jun-07 23:08:09

I started a similar thread when i was around 6 weeks. Apprantly it is completely normal to experience some pain/discomfort as ligaments stretching and all growing down there. I am now 9 weeks, have had a few aches today, when it happened i tend to just rest ofr a bit. Lots of growing going on in there so bound to feel a bit achey . If accompanied by bleeding or really severe pain obv seek medical help then.

THe sonograhper midwife at the Early Pregnancy UNit also reassured me this is normal. Hope you have a fantastically hewlathy preganancy. As pussycatmumma said, we have a new year thread in antenatal threads, come and join us as lots of us in similar situation. Is nice to know you are not alone. xx

beansprout Mon 04-Jun-07 08:47:54

Just wanted to say that I have had the same. It's a bit disconcerting as that feeling usually means my period is about to start. V normal for early preg though. Hope you are ok. I am on the Feb thread too, so hope to see you there (if that's when you are due!)

jules200 Mon 04-Jun-07 19:46:30

Thank you all so much for replying to me it was so nice to hear other people have experienced the same symptoms. Went to the Early Pregnancy Unit today for a scan as i was still in alot of discomfort and they although it was to early to see heartbeat they did say all looked well and everything looked how it should at this stage of pregnancy got to go back in 10 days. As long as there is no bleeding they have said not to worry.

akw Wed 13-Jun-07 19:44:45

Jules200

I have had stomach and back pain from 4 weeks (now 6 wks). Had a misc at 5 weeks last time so was very worried, been for two scans now but still too early to see a heartbeat so I am going again for another scan on Monday. All lovely at the hospital and it realy puts your mind at rest.

bluebell82 Thu 14-Jun-07 08:11:15

Hi just wanted to say that I experienced up until 5.5 weeks. I went to a&e I was that concerned. I was scanned and they could see everything was fine and said that it might be a mixture of nerves about miscarriage and also just my body changing.. I had another scan ten days later and the heart beat was there flashing away, so fingers crossed for you. I am now 8 weeks and not feeling anything except very sore boobs, immense tiredness and a slight amount of nausea.. good luck x

Hi Jules
That sounds really positive. I had a scan at 5/6 weeks due to bad pains too and it showed a sac and yolk etc. Had one 2 weeks later and there was a little alien with a heartbeat. I am now 35 weeks (tomorrow).
Everything will be fine. Congratulations!
X

Hi, I'm new here but you're the first site i've found discussing cramps. Am praying that someone can shed some light on my problem a little.

Had IVF and egg replaced just over 1 week ago. Yesturday, woke up with severe period pain (was hard taking breaths), fainted and threw up. Felt really hot and had to lie where I dropped for 30 - 45 mins until the pain finally stopped.

Expected AF imminently but didn't come and 36 hours later still no sign. Now getting tiny cramps if I move too fast so have been taking things easy. Too early to know if I am pregnant. Due to test this Monday.

Somethings happening and worried it's really early mc threatening or possible ectopic in the making. No one ever associates healthy early pregnancy with severe pain. Any ideas ?

bright Thu 09-Aug-07 19:19:09

Hi, my last period was 5 1/2 weeks ago (I was due 11 days ago!) We've been trying for a baby for 4 months and had an early miscarriage on the first month - although the pregnancy was not diagnosed the dr. thought it was a lost pregnancy from the symptoms.
I've been getting bad stomach cramps for 2 weeks on and off with headaches, tiredness, dizzy spells if I bend down and get up too quickly, nausea and loss of appetite (all on and off!) I've done so many tests...all negative...I've had an ultrasound because of the pain but they only found a cyst on the ovary and are not worried and too early to tell if preg. Waiting for blood test results now...help? Any ideas?

PurlyQueen Sun 12-Aug-07 17:02:50

Congratulations to everyone!
I can't believe I'm posting here! I'm 7 weeks, and let's just say that this pregnancy is the biggest birthday surprise I've ever had.
I have mild cramps all the time, lots of saliva in my mouth, I'm peeing like a racehorse and I can sleep for England.
No sickness yet, but I'm sure that will come.
Oh - and my boobs have never been so sore. I'll never complain about PMT again

softmusk Sun 12-Aug-07 18:23:30

i had really bad back and tummy pains from about 6 weeks felt like i was in early labour
went to doctor told me all was ok as long as no bleeding
11 weeks now and are going now only come on if i do to much

Bessie123 Mon 13-Aug-07 15:26:11

I'm 14 weeks and still getting some pains, but doc doesn't seem worried about it, so I guess it must be normal.

Sparky, I'm afraid I can't help but your pain does sound v severe. Hope everything is ok. Have you seen a doctor?

Kel01 Fri 17-Aug-07 09:54:28

Im just coming up to 6 weeks pregnant and i have period like pains at least once a day. My doctor says its nothing to worry about unless it hurts when i press my tummy but im still a little worried.

PrincessT Fri 25-Jul-08 12:50:06

Hi there! I had a mc 3 yrs ago at nearly 12 wks - found the loss really traumatic and only recently decided we were ready to try again. Found out I am pg again - 4 1/2 wks but have been experiencing backache and stomach pains - Is this normal? So worried something is not right. Asked the dr about early scans to reassure but was told there's no such thing available!

barbie1 Sat 26-Jul-08 22:04:27

i so worried please help...found out im pregnant last week. Could be 4 to 8 weeks pregnant, not having had a regular cycle for years its hard to tell! anyway i have back ache and tummy ache but only one sided, went to the hospital and scan booked for monday but worrying so much until then, cant eat, sleep or indeed be positive about anything. Had blood done and called for result today only to be told they are ok??? what does this mean. doc prewarned because of pain i could have ectopic preg, but surely he could tell by internal? so sorry for going on!!

xJulesx Wed 30-Jul-08 14:08:51

Hi i am 6 weeks pregnant and have been experiencing stomach cramps, I saw a Dr today who told me to rest.
I'm a bit concerned and hope i am worrying for nothing, has any one got any advice, it would be much appreciated

Molleigh Fri 03-Apr-09 12:32:46

Hi Discodolly100
I am also 5-6 weeks and experiencing the same symptoms. I was a bit worried about the pains in the tummy, but from all the above posts, we can be rest assured that it is normal. I also from week 2 experienced dizziness. Even in week 5 it still comes and goes. My rib pain is only occasional. I too feel like I have an inflatable ball inside me. My stomach is also very tender.Hope this helps. Take care.

jenben22 Mon 06-Apr-09 11:26:15

Hi, i had ivf about a week ago, i have been having slight stomach pains and sore breasts, i find out next tues if it has worked. i have already had one round of ivf and one mc but never had these symptoms, after reading your stories it as put my mind at rest, for now so thankyou, fingers crossed for tues

Gillyan Mon 06-Apr-09 14:38:54

Ihad period pains and cramps for weeks this time round and also spotting and everything was fine (I'm 26wks now)

I suppose there is a risk of ectopic PG but you would have quite severe pain.

I too had tenderness.

Baisey Mon 06-Apr-09 15:06:04

Thank God! not that im glad you are experiencing pain but that im not the only one! Ive just come home from work because ive worked myself up so bad about it! Ive not even known a week yet (found out on April fools day) but I think im about 4 or 5 weeks.

jenben22 Wed 08-Apr-09 18:16:07

Wellmy symptoms have decided to come and go now. is it nornal?

SamiaAhmed Thu 09-Apr-09 19:27:18

jenben22 Thu 09-Apr-09 21:10:15

Hi, i think these r normal symptoms, from what iv read etc...the pains r ment to be your body changing getting ready for your baby to grow.just try keep calm.if it gets any worse go see your doctor. hope that helps you

SamiaAhmed Mon 13-Apr-09 22:40:26

Thanks for your help, i feel a bit more relaxed and yes need to relax and try not to worry as much!

rookie81 Mon 27-Apr-09 19:16:41

charmbutterfly Fri 11-Sep-09 20:40:52

I am 5 weeks as well, just found out i am preggers!

Now i have had pretty bad period pains before, but this cramping is driving me crazy and it hits the most at night! I am worried! I just want my baby to be ok!

bambino02 Thu 24-Sep-09 22:17:26

hiya, im new. i already have a 2year old girl and this is our first attempt at our second. i am only 2weeks gone, how early is that to find out?!?lol. i am having my usual period pains and i am so worried i am away to m/c. i cant remember this from my first. i see everyone else is the same so have some more reassurance. fingers crossed all is well, i think i am just over reacting as our first wasnt planned so had no time to think as i do with this time round. i am so chuffed though!! congrads to everyone else also.xx

mummymyers Fri 25-Sep-09 21:17:16

hi mummies

just wanted to say to all the ladies out there that i've read alot on websites & in books that cramps/pains in early pregnancy are totaly normal... they're due to the fact that even though you baby is so tiny, your body's muscles are already starting to expand to make room for your baby to grow. i'm actually thankful for any symptoms i can get... i had a m'c at about 6 weeks in July just gone but didn't have any symptoms except sore breasts. this time round (i'm neary 5 weeks) i've got very sore tummy, trapped wind, tiredness, morning sickness (at night) and diarrhea (all totally normal) it makes me have a bit more hope that this time round everything will be ok. good luck to all of the worried mummies out there, i'm sure you'll all be fine.

bambino02 Fri 25-Sep-09 21:36:31

hi mummymyres

thanks for that information it puts my mind at rest. i think some of us are totaly panacing over nothing but i think it cant be helped!! i have decided to just take it day by day and what will be will be. m/c runs in my family think that was what i was worrying about. if its meant to be its meant to be i am just going to enjoy everyday as it comes now.

xxx

mumnsprog Sun 27-Sep-09 22:44:14

bambino02 Mon 28-Sep-09 08:42:53

hi mumnsprog.

im sure you will be fine but if u feel like you need to call your doctor then you should, but only to put ur mind at rest as i am sure its usual pains. i am pregnant with my second and i am the same every twinge so it isnt any easier lol. i am sure these are the same pains as the majority of women on here are experiencing but if you feel worried then call ur docs as that is what they are here for, hope this helps a little.

TishTosh21 Mon 28-Sep-09 10:29:09

This has made me feel alot better, had really bad period pains this morning, but no bleeding, have been TTC for 3 weeks so im a bit more hopeful that it is a positive sign rather than my AF coming. Thanks everyone!

KMarie Tue 06-Apr-10 21:03:53

I am 5wks3days pregnant and I'm getting quite anxious about any aches and pains that I'm experiencing. I have abdominal cramps (like period pain - bearing in mind that my ppain is usually very sore - or maybe low pain threshold). I also have a sore back and noticing shooting pains down my legs. I'm going to go to the doctor tomo evening because I am scared that it might be an eptopicPreg! Has anyone had these symptoms before?

Bushous Tue 06-Apr-10 22:22:49

Hi Kmarie.
I had lowwer backache, cramps, pains in my legs for about a week when I was about 3 weeks, but has gone now.
Hope all goes well tomorrow. Let us know how you get on. xxx

xkatyx Thu 10-Jun-10 21:46:46

Hi, i know this is a bit of an old thread, but also noticed it has been updated recently.

I'm nearly 5 weeks pregnant and also having these aches and pains really worried.

xx

SeoMum Fri 11-Jun-10 10:58:53

Hi Jules
Try not to worry I had really bad pains up until about 9 weeks in fact I didn't take a pregnancy test till I was 7 weeks as for weeks I just thought I was about to start my period(came off the pill to get pregnant and periods were still irregular)It is normal from my limited experience and will get easier your body is changing a lot and even this early your womb is growing considerably to what it was before you were pregnant. I mentored a 16 year old who smoked and drank through her pregnancy and she experienced a lot of spotting at 8-10 weeks we rushed her to the midwife a lot but the midwife said it was perfectly normal although I have had no spotting so far in my pregnancy at 12 weeks.
I can't offer any other advice except enjoy it and try not to worry I understand your concern buteveryone is different and these signs are normal. If you are concerned go to a midwife that is what they are foe and better to be safe than sorry.
I have started getting pains again after an easy 3-4 weeks off but I've been told its normal but if it gets worse I will be the first to pester my midwife
Goodluck and I hope it goes well

Angieweeks Sat 28-May-11 02:16:05

I am so relieved and happy that this website exists. I found out I was pregnant just under one week ago, and here I am at 01:00 worrying my head off because of a sudden very bad period pain feeling and feeling sick (which thank god has just eased smile ) so I look on the internet and thank god and I mean it I come across this site read 6 messages and sigh a sigh of relief. Im very pleased that my feeling is probably normal. I will be back smile. Thank you all for sharing ( ps partner is asleep next to me and I haven't told my mum yet.. Think I'm changing my mind on that one!!) x

Gooniesgirl78 Tue 04-Oct-11 18:43:37

Hi, I have done two positive home pregnancy tests both of which were positive so I went to the doctors. I was expecting him to do a test but he diddn't is that normal. I am 6 weeks pregnant and was wondering is it normal to have bad stomach ache that wakes me up during the night? My stomach feels like it's on fire inside is this normal. This is my first baby please help.

5weekslouise Fri 04-May-12 12:35:11

Hayleymummytoashton Fri 22-Jun-12 21:36:35

Hi I'm 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and having some minor abdominal pains, sometimes I get a few sharp pains but not often. I've had two miscarriages since the beginning of this year, one at 7 weeks and the other at 5, I had bad pains with both. Only different is this time I got morning sickness a week ago
And it's awful! I've been worried sick so as soon as I found out I phoned up my gp who has booked me in for an early transvaginal scan a week from now. They wouldn't do one earlier as they wouldn't be able to see much. I'm so scared as I really don't want to go through a miscarriage again. Fingers crossed and faithfully praying this is the one... Baby dust to all x x x

Beccajade Sat 05-Jan-13 17:04:12

Hey, I've been having really bad stomache cramps, mainly at night! I got so bad the other night, to the point where I doubled over and was being sick, feeling faint and got really hot! I eventually went to a and e but they said they had no idea what it was. It's my first pregnancy and I think I'm about 5 weeks. I have a scan on Monday and I'm really worried something bad is going to happen sad any advice?

tigerKesha Sat 05-Jan-13 18:57:07

Hi Becca, sorry about the pain. Am going through the same situation. Went to the EPU yesterday & they did a scan which showed nothing. A blood test was taken & I will have to go back tomorrow for other blood test but hopefully it will all be ok. Looking at other people's experiences makes it easier for me to stay calm. Good luck Hun.

Beccajade Sat 05-Jan-13 19:07:02

Hello, I had blood tests which showed nothing! And I went to the EPU yesterday and booked me a scan for Monday! I have no bleeding but the pains just don't seen to get any easier, I wish you all the best smile and deffinately looking at other people's experiences is a lot easier. Take care.

mumagain38 Sat 05-Jan-13 19:10:53

Minor pains and aches are to be expected as ligaments are stretching and softening. But please be aware of eptopic pregnancy, I had one at 6weeks 1 day last year. I had two bouts of horrific pain contained in the same area -- one in work where i had to sit in the toilets thinking i was going to pass out which subided after about 10 mins and once when me and dp had just had nookie both went away after about 10 mins but they were REALLY bad sharp pains. I went for a scan a couple of days later and it was eptopic :O( im pregnant now and felt aches pains twinges ect... but nothing like those ones. Go doctors get a scan done and be safe as it can be life threatening on you. dont want to scare any girls but get it checked out if its bad xx

Phoebejade99 Sat 06-Apr-13 15:47:39

Hi, i was late on my period, i took a clearblue pregnancy test which came back positive, i then took a clear blue digi test which came up 2-3 which means im 4-5 weeks gone, but then i took another this morning and it came up 3+ meaning i 5+ weeks gone. I have no morning sickness or feeling sick but belly cramps.. is this a bad sign or is this normal? should morning sickness start straight away ?

LandsN Sat 06-Apr-13 17:51:30

I didn't get morning sickness till about 7 weeks I am now 10 weeks and it has gone again had scans already due to prev mc's so know everything is ok everyone is different so try not to worry and make the most of it cos it could start any day oh and congratulations x

squizita Sat 06-Apr-13 18:20:25

Thanks all - I have them too. My Dr stupidly booked my scan much too early (the hospital told me to expect not to see anything) so until my next scan I am technically Pregnancy of Unknown Location ... argh scary, of course if this were a week's time I'd be in serious danger of ectopic but they keep telling me it's a technical risk!

Needless to say, the normal twinges I am having are now scaring the heck out of me... but I'm in limbo really as I know I'll get a blood test tomorrow and scan next week to sort it. Just gotta ride it out, but I wish my Dr hadn't accidentally booked me an emergency scan 'the next day' instead of a reassurance scan at 7 weeks!!

abcdemma Tue 09-Apr-13 23:39:23

Just found out that I'm pregnant. Bit of a surprise but on calculation I'm about 3 weeks. Have been experiencing period-like cramps for a couple of weeks (first thought I was due but it didn't arrive so took a test) but upon reading that it's perfectly normal my mind has been put at rest smile Other than ridiculously sore boobs and one random bursting into tears event today no other symptoms as yet smile

sarahb245 Fri 26-Apr-13 17:22:53

Hi all. I'm soo happy to come across this site. Found out last week I am 5-6 weeks pregnant. I was devestated at first as it was unplanned, but after a week of thinking and talking to family members, I've grown to be unbelievably excitedsmile I'm ecstatic now, can't stop smiling. Anyway, The last few days I've had tummy pains, they're not unbearable but I'm worrying like crazy, been web searching to see if this is normal, and after reading all these messages I feel more at ease. Can't help but check my underwear every time I go to the loo I'm that scared. First pregnancy so don't know what to expect, feeling a little tired and literally can't stop peeing. I've seen some people mention ectopic pregnancy, would this cause unbearable pain, I think I'm just paranoid but either way it worries me. Thanks in advance and good luck smile I'm due Xmas eve :D

CarolineFrancesca Wed 19-Jun-13 18:35:05

Congratulations on finding out you re pregnant!
Thank you so much for posting this, I feel like you are describing me! I found out this morning that I am
Pregnant and have been trying not to freak out having had a miscarriage before. It was reassuring to read your post so thank you! Caroline x

KittyKat210688 Thu 04-Jul-13 13:30:11

Hi All,

I was wondering if you could help and but my mind at ease. I came off the pill 2 months ago as my partner and I decided we were ready to unofficially start trying. I was on the pill for 8 years and was never very regular before that. Since coming off I had a cycle of 31 days last month, but this month i'm now on day 34. I have some stomach pain similar to what I have read in other peoples messages, but when I did a test yesterday it was negative. I'm now currently waiting to test again in another 3 days if I dont start, but I dont feel the same as if I was normally due on.

I am constantly checking when I pop to the loo and second guessing every feeling.

I just wish I knew one way or another, but your messages have but me at ease about how im currently feeling and fingers crossed it will all work out.

Kat x
