4lb 8oz at 32 week growth scan!!!!

This little lady is going to be a porker!! I have another scan in 4 weeks ... at 28 weeks they estimated her at 2lb 8oz ... If she's gaining 1/2lb a week she will be 8lb 8oz at due date ... her brother was 8.8 and came shoulder first, getting stuck ... I'm worried now that will happen again :(

Anyone share their experiences of estimated v actual weights please :)

5lb 10 estimated at 32 week, was warned she was going to be huge. Was 8lb 1oz induced 3 days before due date.
Dd2 was on 25th centile for growth so expected her to be tiny compared to dd1 however was 8lb 11oz 4 days late x

Estimated over 8lbs ds was 6lbs 9oz I think they just guess as they go along.
My friend is due next week and was having extra growth scans every 2weeks from 20 weeks until 36 weeks and suddenly her baby is the magic weight and no more growths scans nothing until her due date.

Weight estimation can be very unreliable at that stage. I was told one would be large at 9lb+ by term (he was 7.5lbs) and the other was supposed to be too small, but was 7lbs when born at 37 weeks.

My DS was estimated at 6lb 9oz at 36 weeks.

He was born at 42 weeks weighing 9lb 6oz Shock

Estimated 6lb 10 at 34 weeks, born 37 weeks 7lb 4, so based on 1/2 lb per week I think the estimate was a bit high.

DS was something like OP's estimate, 34 week scan.
Came out 6 lb 8oz. Can you tell I don't believe in size estimates?!

Friend's baby (from 36 week scan) was supposed to be under 4 lb; came out over 7 lb the following week when mom was induced.

Having had a c-section only 13 months previously, I was given regular checks towards the end. The decision was made that I could go into labour as DC2 was small (about 6lb) - she was actually 8lb 8 when born so obviously not very accurate at all!

Estimated weights at scans are unreliable. My friend's DS was predicted to be 11lb at birth - he was 9lb something (ok, still pretty hefty, but nowhere near as terrifying as being told he would be 11lb!)

And growth doesn't follow a straight line (i.e. 0.5lb per week), it curves off, just like the growth charts you see in the red book, and even the growth curves on the scan reports.

My DS was born just before 32 weeks and weighed 4lb 11.5 oz.

I appreciate you are probably feeling nervous because of your experience last time, but the birth will probably not go the same, regardless of the size of baby.

36 weeks and Ds3 was estimated at 9lbs from a scan.
He was 10lbs 15 born at 40+5.

I know a few friends who've had them done and the babies were born roughly the same weights or a little heavier than what the estimations given a few weeks earlier had said, so not always accurate.

I've not got any stories of estimate vs actual weight, but my little boy was 8lb 8oz and was born without any problems, so try not to panic too much - a baby of that size doesn't automatically come with birth complications.
