Is it OK if I just use this thread to moan and swear about this please?!

I am 35 weeks pregnant, have lost bits of my show, been having very strong, painful and mostly regular contractions since Friday before last, I have managed an average of 2 hours sleep most nights since then, with two nights creeping up to 4 or 5 hours - woweeee!! I have lost some sort of liquid this morning but I don't know if it is waters leaking or if it is more of the show but in a different form to what I had had before, or just phenominal amounts of discharge. And on top of all of that, the one thing that I really really really want - which is surprisingly sex - I'm not allowed to do!!

I am very pissed off now.

Hiya, what a nightmare, have you seen your midwife they usually advise you go into be checked if you think your waters may have gone espcially as your 35 weeks may be worth ringing them.

I saw her last Monday, she sent me to the consultant the next day, which was a complete waste of time, they have said I have an irritable uterus, and basically have left me to it, saying to go into hospital if the contractions become regular, but they are regular every night, I can't be in and out of hospital every night, so at the moment we are just playing it by ear and hoping that they come to their usual stop by themselves!

I am going to have to ring the midwife tomorrow anyway because we have finally decided that we want a home birth (if I can hold on till 37 weeks!) so I need to get her to start putting the wheels in motion for that.

oh poor you hopefully it will calm down again then. S
Surly they can't leave you weeks though if your waters have gone ?
I've had 2 home births btw so much nicer than hospital in my experiance

Well, here we are again....

I rang the midwife today, she wants me to go in tomorrow to see about this homebirth, I will mention the possible water leakage to her, but I don't think it was my waters, I think I'd have lost a lot more by now.

I get the feeling that despite all of the contractions and loosing the show, I will still be sat here at 42 weeks (which will be mid-December) hoping and praying they will still let me have a home birth!!

I am going to talk to the midwife about getting a pool for home as well, I really like the idea of it.

you could have lost part of your waters natalie. at least take your temperature regularly and if you see an increase tehn go in to the hosp. Admitedly you are probably better off at home but nice to know all the same. good luck

NJ I lost a little bit of water and it turned out it was my fore waters breaking. They gave me a thermometer and I was induced about 24 hours later. Don't want to worry you but it's worth mentioning to mw.

How can they check if the waters have leaked if I'm not still loosing the liquid?

Sorry, should probably say, this is my second child, but I was induced with my first and I didn't have the whole natural run up to labour, so I haven't got a clue about any of this!

I was told to wear a sanitary towel and bring it in, mind you I was still trickling [sp]

they can tell from a dipstick (!) i think. Liquor turns the stick black or similar. Also they may possibly scan you as they did with me after leaking water and not going into labour. Thankfully my waters had broken as everyone knew i was in hosp because of it and would have been very embarrassing to explain i had pee'ed myself!

NatalieJane · 25/10/2006 00:27

All that is coming out now is a lot of bright white discharge and still the odd bit of show... sorry!! LOL No trickles like yesterday morning.

Jampots, I know for a fact that the trickle I am on about wasn't wee, it was a creamy colour. But, I am now going to have nightmares about calling a poor midwife out to the house in the middle of the night because I have wet myself!! LOL

i knew mine wasnt a wee too but leaky waters can be a problem if an infection sets in. i would at least telephone the labour ward and ask advice. and get your thermometer out!

Report
NatalieJane · 25/10/2006 00:32

Nope, no itchiness, no smells, nothing that points to an infection of any sort really.

I am seeing the midwife tomorrow morning anyway, besides it would have to be an absolute dire emergency to make me go to the labour ward tonight, the main reason we have opted for a home birth is because we have no one to look after DS, and so any trips to the hospital would mean bringing him with us, which in the middle of the night wouldn't be much fun!

The consultant told me to go to the hospital if the contractions became regular, but they are regular most of the time, I wouldn't have left the bloody labour ward if I'd have gone there everytime! As it is, I haven't once had to go down there yet, so fingers crossed it will carry on like that!

my waters weren't clear, like it says in the books. they were clear-ish, but with loads of little bits of white stuff in them. almost like vernix was floating aound in the waters, but LOADS of it. there was no doubt that they had broken, but NJ when i looked on the pad on the surface it looked creamy... so i'd be wanting the docs to check that your waters hadn't bust.

(i asked the docs, midwives etc what the white stuff was and they said they didn't know, by the way. didn't seem to care about it, certainly. oh, and i was induced the morning after they broke.)

NatalieJane · 25/10/2006 00:43

But it was literally only one or two drops of liquid, surely something else would have happened by now? I am pretty certain that if I hadn't have been naked at that point (I had been in the shower got out, dried off while I dried my hair and then was putting my knickers on when I felt it drip) I probably either wouldn't have known or just assumed it was wee/discharge and thought nothing of it.

I don't know what the waters are meant to look like, I don't remember mine breaking with my first, I was away with the fairies in pethidine land!

dunno, the books say clear. if you're happy, i'm happy. but if you have any worries at all then grab a midwife and get them to double-check (presumably by sticking one of their little sticks up your fanjo?)

Well, like I said, I am going to see the midwife tomorrow anyway, should be interesting!

The baby has his foot pressed up against the side of my belly so hard, I think I can actually make out his toes....!
