Can depression cause a miscarriage? I've been depressed for a while prior to getting pregnant I'm 9 weeks pregnant and feel really low (I go to counselling) just wondering if it really can cause a miscarriage or it's a myth?

My doctor said stress can't cause miscarriages and that's a myth although it can effect nutrients getting to the baby.

Btw my depression isn't linked to pregnancy before anyone asks if I'm unhappy about being pregnant in very happy because it's a miracle.

Your doctor is 100% correct, depression/stress cannot cause a miscarriage. People get pregnant with all kinds of mental health issues, work stress, in extreme situations like domestic abuse or warzones. Even people who really don't want to get pregnant can't think themselves to miscarry. I've been outrageously stressed for most of this pregnancy and it's fine. All the things you would do to help your depression (eat well, rest, get gentle exercise) are all the things that will help your growing baby anyway so just continue to take care of yourself and everything will be ok. Don't beat yourself up if you get stressed or tearful, it's pretty standard for preggos anyway with all the hormones. I hope the counselling is helping, pregnancy can be a difficult time so I'm glad you have an established relationship and treatment plan in place, don't be afraid to ask for extra support if you need it.

No! Depression won't cause a miscarriage. You concentrate on seeing your counsellor and looking after yourself. Flowers

Thank you :) Flowers
I think the fact I don't feel pregnant at all due to lack of symptoms is a huge worry for me even though I seen the little bean and heart beat on Thursday I keep convincing myself something will go wrong.

I think I'll see how I go the next few days an if I don't pick up mood wise I'll speak to my GP about it.

I had a completely symptomless pregnancy with my second and was constantly worried, desperately wanted to feel sick or overly tired! It gets better when you can see the bump and feel the movements.

Yeah, stay in touch with your GP, closely. That way you can head off any problems before they arise.
