Pregnancy

Help! I'm terrified.

Hi all, I have just found out I'm pregnant for the first time (not planned but very much wanted) & I am now absolutely terrified. I am potentially 9 - 12 weeks & have been smoking & drinking (I was away for 2 weeks over Christmas & drank every night) & not taking folic acid, etc pretty much all the way through. I found out Tuesday & quit smoking immediately & bought the folic acid but I feel it's too late & I have had a missed miscarriage or my baby will have a serious disability. I am imagining the worse & not even thinking about actually having the baby because I'm convinced it won't happen. I am seeing the midwife on Tuesday 03rd... do you think she will give me a scan appointment? I am considering going private for an early scan as I'm freaking out. I have already had my bloods done at the doctors (that's how I found out - 3 pregnancy tests said negative over 3 week period) so what will that be able to tell her? Do you recommend an early scan? I think I just need a bit of guidance from somebody SadSad

Get an early scan for reassurance maybe?

All the rules we have to follow are quite new. Although they are important, humanity has survived for thousands of years without pills and scans.

My friend found out she was pregnant at 7 months! Her son is a healthy and bright wee thing.

I found out I was pregnant with my first whilst in Ibiza on an 18-30 holiday and the day after drinking nearly a full bottle of tequila and probably about 20 cigarettes. Shock Obviously everything stopped when I found out and we actually flew home through guilt!

She was fine and the midwife didn't seem worried either. She is now a 14 year old and hasn't suffered any ill effects.

This happened to me also. Im around 7-9 weeks and drunk lots over Christmas and for a few weeks after! Im not too worried, im pretty sure a lot of women are in the same position. Try not to let it worry you.

Thanks for the reassuring messages. I have always been the negative "if it can go wrong it will" and as it's all so new I'm a big bag of nerves! I will see the midwife & see what she recommends re an early scan. Im happy but dont want to get too happy just incase. It's the waiting that kills me!

I thought DD1 was a sambuca hangover from a heavy Christmas for a week. I'd been smoking too. She's fine. Lots and lots of people fo the same and all is well. Try not to worry.

Not sure if it will make you feel better but back in the day, when DM was pregnant with me and my DB she was advised not to stop smoking but to cut down a bit as the stress of quitting would harm the baby!

My DH and I are both very healthy.
