hypnobirthing questions

Has anyone done hypnobirthing and would they recommend it? How much would you normally pay for 1 to 1 sessions? If you do hypnobirthing do you still do normal nct antenatal classes? And is daisy birthing the same as hypnobirthing? Thanks all!

I did for my recent second pregnancy. I decided to as was recommended last minute, however due to timings I'd missed the group course so paid for 1:1 (£40ph).

I would totally recommend it. Basically they teach you breathing and relaxation techniques. Both of my labours were the same (waterbirths), but using the different breathing types really did make a difference. Basically by doing deep exhalation the pain would tail off each time, and made the whole thing a lot more bearable.

I did NCT 3 years ago and it wasn't covered. Good luck!

Thanks urterrible. So I should just look at NCT and hypnobirthing as two totally separate courses and do both if I want? How many hours did you do in the end?

Oh yeah, they're completely different. NCT will tell you useful info about labour, how to look after baby, what to expect etc as well as introduce you to other mums (and dads) to be. Where as hypno birthing is all about preparing for a coping with labour.

I did a standard NCT course (6 sessions I think) and just 2 hours hypno birthing (although if you are a first time mum you may want an hour or two more than that. I also guess it's how long the teacher thinks you need too).

Brill thanks for your help! Being a first timer it's all new to me, there's a lot to think about. I'd love to do hypnobirthing, just have to see if we can afford it nearer the time. I think some things are worth spending money on though.

Yeah we did breathing exercises at NCT but not visualisation like in hypnobirthing Smile
