Just found out last week I'm pg with DC number 2. Very early, max 4 weeks probably, haven't even been to docs yet gonna wait till after Xmas but had a BFP Smile
I just know I'm gonna get found out when I decline a glass of wine as we're staying with PIL for a week.
I feel it is too early to announce it but no idea how I'm gonna get away with it!!

Congratulations! I was being offered wine and prosecco at the weekend by a relative who I haven't told yet. I was tempted to accept a glass and have a sip and leave it. I declined because I had work early the next day which she accepted. :) I genuinely did have work but if I wasn't pregnant I would've had a glass. I'm almost 8w

Me too, im 19 weeks and still hiding it. Fortunately im not spending a whole week with my family. Im just saying not drinking because iv to look after my 3DC's. But if I was in your position id just take the glass and get dp to drink it on the sly lol. I think antibiotic excuses and stuff are a big give away. Congrats

Congratulations, what lovely news to have.

I would accept the glass, pretend to drink and dispose of the contents when nobody was looking. Swap with dh, pour down sink, lose the glass etc.

Unless you're driving? I always found the gleeful 'you're not drinking, you must be pregnant' stuff very hard. Of course they are excited, but the early weeks can be nerve wracking and its your news to tell.

Aww congratulations everyone! Mum of 3, WOW 19 weeks and still keeping schtum! That's really impressive! I will be the designated driver most days but Xmas Eve and Xmas day no one will be driving so it's them I'm worried about! Good idea to accept and then hide/dispose/force on DH! I was contemplating the antibiotic-big-fat-lie but don't think it's believable either. My best friend 'had a water infection so couldn't drink' for at least a month when she was early pg Grin

I'm 13 weeks now so no longer hiding it but I was amazed how few people noticed I wasn't drinking. I'd accept a glass, get DH to drink from it and pretend, or i'd have a 'g' and t.
I never ever say no to wine so I thought people would notice right away but no one did.
I'd say the less of an issue you make of it the less people notice.

I'm pretending to be hungover! I'm usuually very rough after a few, so everyone is believing it without question.
I'm generally not seeing the same people all the time, which helps.
It may be more tricky if you are staying at pils. Maybe water infection is the way to go, as you are bound to start weeing every 5 mins in the next few days.

A bit harder when you're staying with PIL but if you get to fix your own drinks you could make up a fake drink and they wouldn't question it.

Congratulations! I'm 6W and I'm hiding it too, got PIL coming round mine for Xmas so going to say been out the night before and feel rough! That's the only thing I can think of. I've found it incredibly hard with work dos so much peer pressure to drink!

Hi, this is really sneaky but I had a work Christmas party I had to go to so I put non alcoholic wine in a plastic bottle in my bag. I would accept a glass of real wine and then swap it in the toilets!

Just accept and dispose - sip from it anyway, you don't even really share a blood supply until 5/6 weeks, so a few sips will do no harm, and then you can pour away when no one is watching. Indigestion another good excuse 'oh no I don't fancy anything else on top of all those sausage rolls, in fact, do you have a Rennie ?' Type of thing.

I am, but everyone knows we're trying and recently had a miscarriage, so I'm just saying that it's because we're trying, so I want to have a healthy Christmas.

I've just found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant and visiting parents and inlaws, luckily have really bad cough so going to pretend I'm on antibiotics. Just need to fill a blister pack with tic tacs lol Wink Wink

I agree with a pp. Don't say antibiotics. It is like a big flashing 'I'm pregnant' sign. Lots of people claim to have used it and it worked, but in fact it's just that most people are too polite to give you the third degree. I have a number of friends who have claimed antibiotics. I haven't said anything, but I've been waiting for the announcement.

Also, you need to know the name of the right antibiotic and what it is prescribed for. A lot of people are fairly clued up these days that most don't rule out the odd drink.

I'd go for distraction, fake drinks (oooh, yes Dh, while you are in the kitchen get me a g&t) and maybe feeling rough/under the weather.

One idea might be saying that you've had this hideous vomiting bug doing the rounds and your stomach is still a bit delicate.

Urgh, so we arrived last night and have had zero sleep due to a bloody awful cough for me and cutting molars for DS. I think my excuse might just end up being exhaustion Confused!

I've bought a bottle of non-alcoholic wine, which I am going to pour over into an empty bottle of regular wine with a screw-on cork and then just drink that all night.

I went for the antibiotic excuse at my staff party on Sunday. One friend questioned it and asked what antibiotic it was as most allow the occasional drink. Luckily she was too drunk to remember the conversation the next day!

Luckily I'm spending tomorrow with my OH and his mum and they both know so no need for excuses!

Metronidazole is the no drinking antibiotic if that helps

Report
MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 24/12/2014 21:54

You really aren't supposed to drink on metronidazole. I used the antibiotics excuse to get through freshers week at 10 weeks and didn't get sussed.

I have drank alcohol whilst on metronidazole in the past and it made me very poorly, so it would be a valid excuse.
