Hi,
Can anyone tell me what its safe to take during pregnancy for a headache. Its quite bad or I would try and ignore it and not take anything.

Thanks

You can take Parecetamol. Make sure you're drinking enough fluids and maybe a sugar boost will help? Hope it goes away soon.

Drink plenty of water and have a rest for a while - eyes shut and feet up if you can.

How far along are you (it's relevant, as it's better not to take anything if you're in 1st trimester, and you may want to get your BP checked if you're in last trimester).

Paracetamol is OK after 1st trimester, but still drink plenty of water.

I was given cocodamol (paracetamol & codeine in first trimester). Couldn't get out of bed for the pain and bloody hell did it work. HOwever the effects of the codeine on my bowels was another matter! HTH

Thanks all. I'm 7 weeks. Its a strange kind of headache I get when its windy outside or is going to be windy outside - weird huh? So, is the concensus that I shouldn't take anything? Can't put my feet up or anything, I'm at work

Also meant to say - I drink 2 litres of water a day anyway so its definatley not dehydration.

You can take paracetamol if you need to. No problem at all with that. I ended up taking cocodamol for a while in all 3 trimesters (not right through ) and was also given it in labour. Depends on your attitude to taking pills I suppose! I wouldn't suffer unnecessarily, particularly if you have a days work to do. You'll just end up feeling even more pants tonight!

this may sound silly but have you tried having a cup of tea or coffee? I got really bad headaches in pregnancy because i was reducing my caffeine intake - not deliberately, i don't drink that much, but just because i wasn't feeling well i didn't fancy it.
Anyway, a cup of tea or coffee always sorted me out!

Thanks everyone. After all that I looked through my bag to find I didn't have any painkillers in my bag anyway Will try a cup of tea. I have stopped coffee altogether since finding out I was pregnant 3 weeks ago so thats worth a try.
