Hi All

I am 20 week's pregnant and have been back and forth in hospital, GP ect with regards to my low blood count (only 8.0!). I have been advised 5mg folic acid for last two months plus i had 5xB12 injections last week. Guess what my blood count is still 8.0 (It was 8.0 even before started taking 5mg folic acid).
Please can some one advise what to do now?? GP says i might have blood transfusion before due date??. I am scared at the moment as dont know much about all this and this is my first baby (I had ectopic in 2012).

Do i really need private consultation to treat blood level as no one seems to be interested to sort the problem (even after having 5 blood tests!!!). if yes can someone recommend good consultant or Hospital in London/Essex please.
Sorry to ask so many questions ladies. A good advise really appreciated. thanks in advance all.

You should be having shared care with an obstetrician and haematologist.
You GP should have referred you to your nearest specialist unit.

North Middlesex Hospital in Tottenham/Edmonton has a good Haemoglobinopathy unit and the obstetric department is very experienced at looking after patients with thalassaemia, sickle cell etc.

There may be somewhere nearer to you, but I don't really know the Essex hospitals.
