Pregnancy

Sore hip/bum cheek/thigh

I'm 32 weeks and when I walk I have a sore hip/bum cheek/thigh on one side. It's almost like I've pulled a muscle or something. I had this last pregnancy but not until about 36 weeks. That time the midwife just brushed it off as normal pregnancy problems that I'd just have to deal with and it stopped at about 38 weeks. Does anyone know what it could be or how to help it? It's much harder having this while chasing a toddler!

Sounds like it could be sciatica? Ask your midwife for a physio referral.

Yes sciatica or muscle spasm. I had this pre-pg and it is reappearing.
Mine was a spasm, tbh a chiro is more help than a physio in my experience.

Sounds identical to me! GP diagnosed a problem with my SI joint, related to PGP & referred me to a Physio. 1st Physio didnt specialise in the area & didn't really help, but second did & helped hugely. With a support belt now I'm doing very well at 37 weeks. Don't ignore it though, I had a week of complete agony that could have been avoided if I had it checked out sooner and not put it down to pregnancy aches.

Check out PGP online for more info (on phone so can't post links) but basically limit stairs, make sure knees are together getting in and out of cars/turning in bed, avoid carrying anything heavy & get a support belt.

Oh yes, I had this at 30 weeks. It started off feeling like id done 200 lunges, then my right bum cheek went all achy, then it spread down my thighs!
Ouch indeed!
I thought it was the beginning of SPD so kept my kness together all week and didnt lay flat on my back, only after a good pummeling (pardon the words) from the husband, with his knuckle right in my bum cheek, did it go.
Figured the baby was lying on something funny!

Sciatica, almost certainly.
Unless you get a physio who is able to deal with this in pregnancy, look into finding an osteopath or chiropracter who is willing (and trained) to take you on.

I had something like that last time I was pregnant. I could barely move. I saw my GP and got an NHS physio referral which took weeks to come, so saw an osteopath in the mean time. He was great and it was fixed by the next day.

Also, I've been going to pg yoga for a few weeks. It really helps loosen it, and the teacher has given a lot of tips for how to deal with it. Apparently all connected to sod/ligament issues.
Bump support, birthing ball all help

Oh yes, a gym ball can help :)
