I'm 32+1 today and for the past three or four days I've been getting period like cramp on and off throughout the day. it's usually a couple of hours in between but it keeps coming back. Should I be worried?

It could be Braxton hicks?? I was told they get worse - I don't know but didn't want to read and run!! :)

Could be Braxton Hicks. But it could also be pre term labour. Please call your midwife or delivery suite now for advice.

I had this at about the same stage. Turned out to be a urinary infection. I had no other symptoms at all which is unusual for me. But sort of period cramps can be a sign in pregnancy. I'd talk to your midwife.

I would get it checked out ASAP. It might be Braxton Hicks, but there's a chance it could be preterm labour, and it's important to rule it out. Don't take 'No, it's fine, don't worry, no need to come in' for an answer, even coming from a midwife, unless you have actually been examined.

Hope you get checked out I am 31 today and put it down to Braxton hicks when I did go in after speaking to midwife I was starting to go into labour and they managed to catch it just in time so never ignore any cramps etc I thought they should be worse so out it off and it could of been a horrible mistake. Hope everything is ok for you

Braxton hicks are usually painless. Labour starts with period like cramps so I would defo get checked out

Thank you every one!

I went in and they've said I am having contractions, getting steroids and drip to stop them.

Weren't going to take me in at first. they've done a swab and said it shows that I could be going into labour soon.
Thank you so much for your help as I wouldn't have done anything about it otherwise.

Hope your okay. Keep us posted. Understand they can slow down labour for abit and develop the lungs more so. Good luck! xxx

christmasmammy Flowers. I'm so glad you got it checked out, and I'm sorry you're going through this. I hope they manage to stop the contractions - do keep us posted. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that your baby stays put for as long as possible, but please don't hesitate to come and say hello to us on the Premature Birth board if you have any questions - we're a friendly (if slightly shellshocked) bunch, and we all understand how stressful it can be to be told you might deliver early.

They gave me the steroid injections and fitted a canula. However things eased off on their own so the drip wasnt needed.
They're still expecting me going into labour early though, said they didn't think I'd last long enough to get my home birth.
Just hope the little stays put even another few weeks xxx

It's great that the contractions have stopped on their own and you got the steroids. Any extra day makes a difference, and many people manage to hold on a few more weeks (or more in some cases). In any case, it's good that you've already made it to 32 weeks (my DS was born at 29 weeks, and the 32 seekers I met were doing so much better so much faster.) Are they keeping you in hospital?
