desperate for reassurance - soon to be on a drip

Today my midwife found protein and ketones in my pee. It was heavily concentrated and now I'm being sent for a drip (as soon as partner gets home)

Has anyone else had this? Did it help? I'm terrified!!

Oh yes had quite a bit of vomiting!

Yes I'm 28 weeks and have hyperemesis. I've had 2 hospital admissions for IV fluids so far, and I'm likely to need a third one sooner or later too.

You will be fine, it really helps to get re-hydrated and get rid of the ketones, and it should help give you a boost and make you feel better. Plus they may be able to sort you out with some anti sickness drugs which should also help.

You should pop over to the Hyperemesis Support thread as lots of posters on there have been in and out of hospital. I hope you start to feel better soon x

I've had this too because of hyperemesis. I found the iv fluids to be good cause it made me feel better by flushing all the ketones out of my system. I wasn't thirsty all the time and I could give my poor abused tummy a rest. I did go to the loo alot though!

I had 3 hospital admissions in total for iv fluids and was lucky that things improved around 16 weeks so that I haven't vomited since then (now 32 weeks). I am still on medication though. I can't recommend taking antiemetics and a proton pump inhibitor enough. There are several which are safe to use in pregnancy.

I'd suggest having a read of the pregnancy sickness support website (sorry on phone so can't put link in but top hit on Google). I found the information and advice very helpful when I was feeling horrendous.I

I hope you've been iv'ed up for a bit now and starting to feel better. Let us know how you're doing?
