Only 4-5 weeks pregnant according to scan?

Hi there,

Bit of background I have 2 children (4 years and 6 month old) who were both conceived through IVF as we were told we couldn't conceive naturally.

My last period was 25th June but as they are often long and irregular I didn't worry I had missed one. Finally did a test on 26th aug and it was positive (first response line same colour as control line)!!! Couldn't believe it, did several more all pos and did a clearblue digital on 28th aug and it said 2-3 which is 4-5 weeks pregnant. Did another on 1st sept (Monday) and it said 3+ which is 5+ weeks preg so I assumed I was around 5-6 weeks as no idea when I ovulated.

Had an early scan yesterday (Friday) and there was a v small gestational sac but nothing visible inside yet so she said I was 4-5 weeks?! Thought there would be something visible by now I'm so worried there's something wrong.

Had bloods taken yesterday and again on mon to see if levels increasing and another scan on the 19th sept.

Just done another test and it still says 3+ and internet cheap test was instantly positive and dark.

Not sure what to think to be honest, just want some reassurance all might be ok I guess :/

My six week scan results were that the baby was about five weeks, certainly no more. They saw a heartbeat but still the pregnancy got recorded as 'uncertain viability' and I had to go back at nine weeks. At this scan they said it was nine weeks and at my twelve week scan they said thirteen weeks.

At the early stage you're at it's hard apparently to get it accurate and you wouldn't expect to see much if it was 4-5 weeks.

Wishing you all the luck in the world, I know how stressful that time is.

Oh it's tough. And there is nothing you can really do but wait and see. I had an early scan after considerable bleeding at what I thought was 6 1/2 weeks. They saw sac but nothing else and said 5 weeks, maybe plus a day or two. I went back for another scan 10 days later and was 6 weeks 4 days, and saw heart beat. My 12 week scan has moved me on a couple of days but not significantly so I was genuinely just not as far on as we'd thought. With those dates I'm amazed the pregnancy test was positive as I did a CB digital (they aren't particularly sensitive, not like the FR ones) at what must have been only 1 week past ovulation/conception, and I got 2-3 weeks on it. Try not to worry about the weeks on the CB digital tests. You are getting posative tests still, that's good. It can still be OK, but oh my the waiting and uncertanty and feeling in limbo is so hard.

Hello. It could go either way at the moment so probably the best thing to to is try not to think about either possibility too deeply until you have the next scan on 19th September.

Hopefully, that scan will show a bigger sac, heartbeat and everything going fine.

However, don't rely on POAS tests - all they show is that your body knows there is something in your womb - they can still show positive for weeks even if nothing is going on. You know that there's a gestational sac there so any further POAS tests aren't going to tell you anything different. the only thing to do to actually know is to wait for the next ultrasound.

The limbo is really hard but there is really nothing you can do at this stage. If it's bad news in the end then there won't be anything you "should have" done - nothing to feel guilty about - it's down to chance right now.

So you think you are 5-6 and the scan says 4-5? I'd really not worry at this stage. I just don't think either scans or wee sticks are that accurate. Time will tell, but in the absence of pain and bleeding, and with clear BFPs on any kind of pregnancy test, it all looks quite reassuring. For your peace of mind the only thing I'd suggest is another scan at about 7 weeks (in 2 weeks). At that stage which ever dates you accept, if all is well you will almost certainly see a heart beat.

I wouldn't worry I used a clear blue that said 2-3 (making me 4-5 at the time of finding out) went for an early scan at what I thought to be 9wks and it said I was 7+2 . Early scans can be out 5 days each way. 2 scans later and my edd is still same as the 1st scan. If anything take it as a positive that your hormone levels are high which should mean a healthy pregnancy.

Thank you everyone! I have re tested this morning and all tests are blazing, FR sucked all the dye out of the control line!

Now worried about blighted ovum but I know I need to relax and wait for bloods and scan

Try not to worry, I went for early scan due to pain and I was 6.5 weeks. At that point all they could find was an empty sac :( I had to wait 2 weeks before I would get another scan. Was a longggg time to wait and I convinced myself it was blighted ovum.
I'm now 38 weeks and waiting on my ds coming :)
It's so early at these stages so try not worry.
All the best

Update: went for my scan on Friday and we saw the baby and a heartbeat! I'm only 6 weeks 3 days so my first dark FR test was only at 9 or 10dpo!
