I've had a follow up appointment today at the ante natal clinic as the Friday before bank holiday I was admitted for assessment as I had high blood pressure

The midwife I saw today has now changed me over the consultant led care as my blood pressure was borderline today, during my appointment with the consultant I told him how i am struggling with work... They've tried amending my work duties and also giving me better shifts but I still feel stressed and moody all the time... I work in Aldi so sitting on till for a whole shift is murder for my back... It's also the same if I work a few hours on shop floor... He gave me a sick note but it said 'im able to work as long as my hours are amended' which isn't going to help as I told him... I'm 30 weeks. Do you think I should go see my GP and see if they can sign me off? It's only 3 weeks until I start my ML... But I can't cope until then Sad sorry for the long post

If you don't feel able to work up until your maternity leave is due to start and you're struggling to cope, then I advise you go and see your GP. It sounds as though you and your managers have tried to work things so they are easier for you, and you're still uncomfortable.

Good luck!

Everyone's body is different I suppose! I work 45 hours a week (2 hours travel a day) and I'm not finishing work until the 24th Dec (Due date 21st Jan), dreading how I am going to feel by then as I don't get sick pay and can only afford a couple of months of maternity. If I was you, take the sick leave if you can afford it. I know I would! You don't want to be stressing out and making yourself poorly right now.

One thing to check is the clause in your company's maternity leave policy regarding maternity related sick pay in the last few weeks leading up to maternity leave. My employer-very large organisation- and several others state that any maternity related sick leave taken in the last four weeks before the date maternity leave is due to start will result in immediate commencement of maternity leave.I'm not sure if this is standard across the board but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.Worth checking out before you ask GP for a sick line as you only have 3 weeks to go and could end up having your mat leave started earlier.
Hope it all goes well!

Biff the policy should say 4wks before confinement date ie 36wks pregnant legally an employer cannot enforce mat leave before that.
