what would you do?

So I have a midwife appointment at 2pm and I am 39 weeks today. Have been told I will be offered a sweep at my appointment to try and get things going. Would yo have one?

I really can't decide, I have a list of pro's and cons:
Pro's:

1. I am so uncomfortable, I have piles and just got rid of thrush. My back and hips ache!!!
   
2. I've only got a week til due date so no concerns in terms of size and last time I went 13 days over :(
   
3. DS is desperate to meet his baby sister
   
   Cons:
   
4. Stupid feeling in my head about August babies struggling at school
   
5. My piles haven't fully cleared up
   
6. Money is tight until Friday (I know not massive issue but just unsettling me)
   
   I cannot make up my mind at all!!!! I appreciate even if I have one things might not start, I had countless with DS and they didn't do a single thing but equally have been told that sweeps with second babies tend to be much more effective. Also DD is very low down and has been for weeks so is probably more likely to appear with little encouragement!
   
   What would you lovely ladies do???

i've no idea on what is likely to happen medically.
i'm 38+1 and can see your temptation/dilemma but for what it's worth, despite feeling really really uncomfortable too, i think i'd wait till at least 40 and see if anything happens in the meantime... but at the same time if you go ahead then as you say nothing 'bad' is going to happen!

I would go for a sweep, come home and watch bake off with a cup of tea, go for an early night and contractions start in the early morning. That's what I did this time last year. Also, another pro. I could be wrong but an August baby means starting school a year earlier compared to September ones so one year less childcare costs??

I wouldn't - but as daft a reason as this might sound, I'd like them to be home for a year longer, so I'd hold on if I could :)

I think your reasons 'not to' are stronger than your reasons 'to' - but only you can decide and try not to stress - you are choosing between two good options, neither of them would be 'bad'

I think it's not helped by feeling a bit of pressure from family (mainly DPs) to have this one on time/early if possible! I know I should ignore them but it's hard isn't it!!!

Think I will try to not stress about it (although quite tricky) and maybe just go with my instinct when I get there!?!?!

Am hoping if I decline today I'll be able to get an appointment for Monday to have one then instead.

I'm a day ahead of you, 39+1 but don't have an appointment till next week. No idea if I'll be offered a sweep then.

If I was offered one today I'd be so tempted, but would prob wait till Monday for the whole school thing! I'm sure it doesn't make a difference, but there's a lot of dyslexia in my family and want her to have any advantage she can!

WTAF?? The implication being that it's YOUR fault the first was was 13 days over and something you choose?? Idiots. Definitely ignore! Maybe we should just assume they mean it would be nice for YOU if the baby wasn't so late this time :)

How did your appointment go? What did you decide to do in the end?

I don't think it makes a difference for school - as with all things in life there are advantages and disadvantages! It's just I like the extra year with them at home :)

Midwife didn't do a sweep based on me only just having got rid of thrush. Have instead booked for an appointment for Saturday morning for a sweep.

Feeling pretty happy after it all, thank you ladies!

And I would like to think they're only thinking of me but my delightful MIL actually said the other day 'it's like she doesn't want to go in to labour, she's hardly trying!'
She didn't realise I could hear her, my DP was not particularly subtle in his response!

I know if I hadn't been so shocked I think I would have laughed at her! Unfortunately this is a long running theme of stupid comments from her and she never seems to understand what's so ridiculous!

I'd be crossing my legs to keep the baby in to spite her! GP's say some dumb things. I try to convince myself it's down to excitement!
Good luck for Saturday. I gave birth to my DD(4) bang on 37 weeks the day after having reflexology, so I'll definitely be trying that this time round!
