Is it possible to hurt/squish baby in the womb?

I may have completely lost what's left of my crazy pregnant mind but is it possible to squash baby in the womb?

I was in the bath last night and whilst struggling to get out of the bloody thing, I stood up quite suddenly from a squatting position so that my legs didn't buckle underneath me due to my extra weight! (I'm 35 weeks)

My bump was obviously resting on the top of my thighs whilst I was squatting but could the force between my thighs and bump when standing up have hurt her in anyway?

Forgive me for being neurotic!

It is possible to cause trauma from example a road traffic accident, or sharp major blow to the abdomen (like a full on punch) but I think highly unlikely from getting out a bath. They are pretty well protected in there by amniotic fluid and your own internal organs... And how much could you really squeeze your bump between your legs anyway? Just monitor her movements and if you're worried call a MW.

Sorry I meant.. when I stood up could the bump pushing away from the tops of my legs have caused her any discomfort due to the pressure as I was lifting up (not sure whether that makes sense!).

As Cool said, it takes a lot of pressure to hurt them in there. It's a well designed system. If you feel like anything is not quite right re movements obviously go and get it checked out, but I doubt you could do any damage from what you describe.

Thank you! Movements have been completely fine so I doubt she felt a thing! I just have to remember that my legs aren't as strong as they once were Smile It would have been much worse if I'd ended up falling and bashing my bump!

Remember that baby isn't just underneath your skin in the bump but is protected by lots of fluid which would take the force of any squishing. It would take a large impact to hurt baby.

Thanks Jenny I'm so careful because it feels like she is so close to the surface sometimes but I know it would be very difficult to hurt the baby unless it was a car accident etc. She probably noticed that there was less room for a brief moment but no harm done. Ahh I'm such a worrier!

Think how hard your midwife prods and pokes you - it's absolutely fine don't worry. I am forever squishing my bump or lying on it at night. They're very well protected in there Grin
