MIL on finding out we were having twins said... "I don't want to worry you, but I know someone who had twin boys and they both turned out to be gay" WTactualF?!

What are some of the howlers that you've heard been thrust upon you

Deary me, that's shocking. I hope ypu replied you wouldn't care if ypur kids are gay.

Not in the same league but a shop assistant told me a very neutral white sleepsuit must be meant for boys because is has an elephant in it and elephants are for boys...wtf!

Ha! That's excellent. You should have said in that case you'd better get rid of one.

She's a nightmare tbh! I was so shocked she said it I just looked at my SIL dumbfounded!! I then replied that as long as our babies are healthy, frankly we couldn't care less if they were gay!
What a stupid thing to say. Squints at MIL

Brilliant Ninja!

I popped in to my boss' office to ask him something. On seeing me (about 16 wks pregnant) he said in all seriousness "Oh I can tell you're pregnant now by your face".

I replied with a warning not suggest my face is now fat!

Another colleague was in the office at the same time and was laughing hysterically!

I cam see the funny side now Grin

Something tells me that this will be the start of many similar crazy statements from your MIL!

Prepare yourself for a few gems about how/what you should feed the babies, when they should sleep, how to teach them to behave etc.

Oh that is awful. I used to work with adults with Learning Difficulties and a man I was dating at the time asked me why are they born 'bad'and looked at me in disgust.

Other people have said I would turn funny myself (including my mother)

It's hard to get over hearing such ignorant comments. They reflect more on the person say if them than anything else they do.

First pregnancy (35 years ago) - eight months gone, but standing at a very high counter in Timpson's, to be asked - 'what can I get for you, son?'. I did have very short hair at the time .....

Brilliant Op.

When DD was born DH sent the customary email to family and close friends with a picture of DD. MIL sent a text immediately back to DH saying "well I can't tell you have had anything to do with her conception". Shock. Hmm

"Was it planned?" was the first question asked of me by my manager when I told her I was pregnant. Frankly I couldn't believe she asked as I can't see how it's any of her business! (N.B: For those wondering, yes it was a planned pregnancy and really probably not even that surprising seeing as I was 28 and had gotten married the year before)!

We've also had the can't-believe-the-sheer-front-of-some-people, who- on finding out it's twins have said "so was it ivf?" (what? with 5 sets of twins in my family? All non-identical?!?!?)
What gives people the right to say things like that? Do they honestly expect an answer to something that I would guess would be a very private situation?
Shakes head in wonder Shock

At 28 weeks pregnant, wearing a dress that clearly made me look pregnant. "Oh, you don't even look pregnant.. you've been fatter before... " How polite.

I told my neighbour I allowed myself a cider during pregnancy (well into second trimester) and she said she never touched a drink pregnant as it only took one to cause fetal alcohol syndrome. Then she hoiked up her judgy pants and went indoors. Confused

My DS is 6 years old and I'm 37 weeks pregnant with my second. Lots of people have asked "why have you got such a big age gap?"

It takes all the politeness I can muster not to tell them we were trying for 3 years and had a miscarriage so it's not like we planned this gap!

Shock at the MIL complaining baby doesn't confirm her sons role in the conception!

I think I would have made him reply, 'Now that you mention it, Mum, that nose does look a lot like the postmans...'

How rude mrsgiraffe I'm 37 weeks to and DS is five. Not had any remarks like that but If I did I'd make them feel very uncomfortable!

One of my colleagues, on finding out that I was pregnant said "congratulations, I hope you have a boy". I assume she meant because I already have a girl. But I certainly don't care whether I have a boy or girl. There isn't much point in hoping anyway (though I genuinely don't). So why one of my colleagues cares is beyond me.

I got 'was it planned?' from my boss too! And a few other people. Why do they want to know that, its asking about my sex really isnt it? Weird.

Also 'were you trying long?'

After not finding out gender 'you won't be able to bond with your baby' Ummmm that's just plain rude and ultrasound is a fairly recent invention and mums bonded before those existed.

I'm still a size 8 but with a bump and I get a lot of 'are you eating properly?' and 'you're not dieting are you?' I'm actually measuring slightly big as well!

The plain weird ones... (in a horrified voice) ’your baby might have curly hair!' Yup, I do so its certainly possible

'A boy is better so they can inherit' what do they inherit that a girl can't? I don't have a royal title!

My friend announced that a mutual friend had given birth to identical twins. She didn't believe me when I had to tell her that it was genetically impossible. The twins were a boy and a girl. She insisted boy/girl twins can be identical.
