stop looking at me!!!

Does anyone else find this as annoying as I do?

Glance? By all means. Acknowledge? Sure. Smile? I might smile back at you. Ignore your wife talking to you because you're staring so intently? NO. NEVER DO THIS.

Actually just happened to me at Tesco. Maybe I'm paranoid as well as hormonal.

It´s not hormones, often men enjoy a good stare (so can women, I´m sure!)

Here´s an "ugh" from me in sympathy.

Either you're paranoid or we both are! Just happened to me too - was leaving a restaurant and some bloke literally turned his head as I walked past! Im PREGNANT!

I went to town today, wearing a pretty tight dress so bump was super obvious. Was so shocked by the amount of starers!

I'm a starer, sorry. I just miss that lovely tight feeling under my hand and the fact that your baby is all potential and no disappointment yet. (Mine are lovely but at 9 and 7 I have learned to love them for who they are, not who they might become).

I'm being nostalgic. Sorry will try not to do it any more.

I'm used to starers now, it's a bit hard for people not to when I always wear bump-hugging tops so it's completely obvious I'm pregnant, I catch a glimpse of my shadow sometimes and even I notice how round I look some days lol, but it comes in handy when I'm rushing for a bus & it waits for me so I can get on lol x

have you encountered tutters yet? I got tutted at by a woman in ALDI once.

I get confused lookers instead. I am obese and you can see people staring and thinking 'is she pregnant or just fat?' I was not surprised by this at 20 odd weeks but I am now 33 + 3 and quite obviously not just fat. It's quite funny to see the thought process written on peoples faces though xx

It's a bit odd, isn't it - you can see people's gazes focusing on your bump. Fine if they smile, not so much if they make you feel like a freak.

I've found people look most "interestedly" if you're out in the evening, eg in a bar or restaurant.

Oh dear, I hope I don't stare but can't help looking! I am also nostalgic for my pregnancies with my dc and seeing other pregnant women makes me smile and think of all the unknown-as-yet amazingness that will happen for them.

I'm 38+1 so people now look at me and wince! Or automatically ask if I'm ok as I lumber around. I think it's the heat as well, I'm in vest tops or maxi dresses so I look huge and also clearly look very uncomfortable!

bugoven · 02/08/2014 10:15

I went shopping yesterday for maternity clothes (which I swore I wouldn't need but at 35 weeks tomorrow I gave in as dressing myself was becoming a real challenge!).

I had people staring and smiling all day and to be completely honest I loved it. This is a long awaited pregnancy and I love that even strangers acknowledge how amazing this is. Plus I am absolutely huge, had a real giggle in the changing rooms with some other shoppers, especially as they tried to reassure me that I looked "blooming" and not like a cow in a pink dress. Ha ha =)

Ha! I just popped to the shops & a lady in the juice aisle literally did a double take & glared at me! with a look of, should you be out in your condition? I'm 36+2

Mostly people just look & smile, I'm a smiler, I like to see bumps. This is my second pg so I know what those ladies have to come & how lovely they must be feeling, its nice to share a fleeting smile of acknowledgment.

I've had friends encounter the tutters! I'd just roll my eyes at them!

I'm so happy I saw this thread, I thought it was just me being paranoid!

I don't mind the nice stares (happy looking people) but I get disapproving ones if I'm out after dark, out socially or carrying something. I do need to take my laptop to work, so need to carry stuff, and also am entitled to some social life whilst I still can

Report
GailLondon · 02/08/2014 16:44

What's the tutting about? Why on earth would anyone tut?

Report
squizita · 02/08/2014 16:58

Gail people who read the daily mail online and think carrying one carrier bag means you're willing yourself to miscarry or if you're out at night (drinking cola or juice) you're a sinful neglectful mum who will leave her child in a drawer and go out clubbing...
Even people who manage to keep a lid on their idiotic ideas when sober tend to get more 'open' after a drink.
Unfortunately unlike most anti social issues, this kind of tirade is more likely from a lady in a twinset after one too many pinot grigios than from a drunken teen ... so you're no safer for going to 'naice' places like middle class gastropubs.
Angry

Also a starer, sorry Grin (((waves))) Hi, Also a bump misser. Don't take it personally just know that the four rampaging dervishes resembling Tasmanian devils behind me used to be a bump at one time and I really really miss that (and I'm super broody). I will try not to be so creepy in the future.

weebairn · 02/08/2014 17:06

Aw, I quite like the looks and smiles. And the sympathetic waitresses telling me I should DEFINITELY have that small glass of wine.

But looks can be creepy sometimes, obviously, pregnant or not!

Report
puddymuddles · 02/08/2014 17:09

I stare too (sorry). But I smile too. Not that long since my two were babies as they are still pre schoolers! I don't understand the tutting?! Who would do that? Odd.

Report
GailLondon · 02/08/2014 17:24

How awful! Haven't experienced any strangers tutting, but get plenty of 'should you be eating/drinking that?' comments.
Don't mind people looking!

Report
weebairn · 02/08/2014 17:26

No one's ever told me off… I don't look fierce or anything so i'm not sure why not… like a short round ball at the moment anyway :)

I wish they would ask me to sit down and stop trying to do things more at work though

I was telling a friend today about people staring, glad it's not just me. From women you can tell it's because they are remembering what it was like or that they are just broody but I don't get men, what are they thinking?

Report
weebairn · 02/08/2014 18:41

I think some men get quite broody too, though…

One of my male colleagues smiled at my bump and then told me in huge detail about his 4 grown up children the other day and got very wistful about the baby stage, he's barely spoken to me before.

Report
weebairn · 02/08/2014 18:42

Not defending creepy staring though. Massive difference.
