Hope someone can help. I woke in the night a week ago with terrible pain down my left side. I saw midwife that day who could not give me an explanation but told me to make Drs appt at the end of the week if still there. The pain went but had pain in left side lower back the day of the appt so went. dr detected white blood cells in Urine so had 3 days of trimethoprim which I finished Monday morning. Monday evening had same pain that was a dull ache left side lower back so rang Dr Tuesday. Dr has now given me 250mg amox 3 a day for 5 days. Iv not had pain since Monday night even tho started amox Tuesday evening and have taken 3 now.

Should I continue taking them or stop as have no symptoms and the back ache could just be back ache! Reluctant to take ABs, 29 weeks preggo

Always finish a course of antibiotics.

I've just been prescribed antibiotics (amoxicillin) for a urine infection and I'm 37+5 wks pregnant. No symptoms so was a little surprised by it. They're perfectly safe in late pregnancy otherwise doc wouldn't prescribe. Kidney infections can be quite dangerous if not cleared in pregnancy.

Hello, here is a patient info leaflet about use of amoxicillin in pregnancy.

www.medicinesinpregnancy.org/Medicine--pregnancy/Amoxicillin/

Please do not stop taking your antibiotics before the course is finished..any bugs that are left behind after the first couple of days are the ones that don't respond to the antibiotic as quickly, and if treatment then stops these can continue to multiply. This is thought to be one of the mechanisms that can lead to antibiotic resitance.
