Pregnancy

It's a whopper!

Feeling scared. Am obese with high BMI but have had a healthy normal pregnancy throughout.

Today at 32+2 had a growth scan as fundus height measuring not very accurate for me. And my baby appears to be huge. Now I am scared. Have been careful with healthy diet and have only gained 5kg during pregnancy. Now have a baby who's head is measuring 2 weeks ahead, leg 1.5 weeks ahead and stomach 5 weeks ahead!!!

Now feeling scared and like I have somehow let baby down. X

you need to take growth scans with a BIG pinch of salt - they are notoriously unreliable. Mine done at around 35 weeks had a predicted birth weight which was out by more than 2.5lbs. Measuring two weeks ahead is no big deal anyway - that's a 2centimetre difference in a measurement that is imprecise to start with - I would relax if I was you!

Im measuring 2.5 weeks ahead so we will see if the scans are accurate or not But bear in mind the baby could have had a growth spurt that week and growth may slow down towards to end to it all will average out, dont worry

With dd they were out by 2.5/3 lbs (she was smaller than they estimated) so I wouldn't start freaking out.

Im measuring 3 weeks ahead on ultrasound and Im 32 weeks but the doctors arent concerned. There can be variability in growth rates at this later stage, am hoping mine will even out in time. Scans can also be unreliable for this too so dont fret.

Thanks for all the messages guys. Feeling a little more positive now. Was just a shock. Seems like there is a lot of discrepancy in the growth scans xx

I was told by top consultant that I was having a 'whopper'. Was induced at 40+10 and DS was 8lb 1oz.

As an aside my 2nd baby was 'small for dates' - induced early and was 8lb 1oz Grin

I tuned out with baby number three, I think there were suggestions she was too big - yup came out 8lb 1oz.

Not saying you won't have a biggun but they are wrong very often.

My cousin was warned and warned her ds was going to be huge! I mean 11lb plus by growth scan she was tiny so they induce her on due date she is warned about c section etc guess what he was born on due date at a whopping 7lb 6oz, way out there I know a few that they have been told they will be huge and be tiny or normal size
