Heartburn - omeprazole

My heartburn has been severe pretty much this whole pregnancy and really getting me down. I have tried tums and gaviscon however the effects are short lived, I've been prescribed omeprazole 20mg, I've been taking it for 3 days and the results are amazing I can't believe how much better I feel.

However I decided to google and there are conflicting opinions on if its safe or not, my doctor said it was. Any others taking or taken omeprazole in pregnancy? I'm 27 weeks.

Sorry to hear the heartburn is being an absolute pain!

I took it for about five weeks between weeks 16 and weeks 21 (now 24 weeks) and it made a huge difference! I was worried about it as well but my friend who is a gp took it during her recent pregnancy, and she now has a gorgeous happy, healthy 4 month old DS, so that was reassurance enough for me.

I have been on omeprazole for the last 3 or so years. I checked with my GP when we discovered I was pregnant and was told as with anything you take, it can be passed to the baby etc but that there does not appear to be any harm.

I was taking it through 1st trimester with DD2. All OK.

Took it last pregnancy and have a healthy and happy 17 month old DD asleep upstairs. Taking it again this time too - nothing else touches my acid indigestion.

I took it with DS and he is fine if it helps keep taking it heartburn can be awful so enjoy the relief :)
