Hi,
I have found out I am pregnant early, I'm about 5-6 weeks. Any advice on coping with the time until the first scan etc? It feels agonisongly long. Guess that's just the start of the next 9 months ?
Also I called the doctors today and they have booked me in with the midwife in 4 weeks. Is the the right amount of time? I'm already taking folic acid. What about vitamin D do I just start straight away?
Sorry for all the questions. This is all very new to mr ?

Congratulations! Yep, seeing the midwife for your booking appointment is usually around 8-10 weeks, where they take your medical history and that of your partner. First scan at around 12 weeks, although you can choose to pay for a private scan earlier as well if it's too long to wait - best done after 8 weeks to see more.

Re vitamins, I went for a pregnancy multivitamin so I knew I was well covered for everything. I don't have the best diet at any time but even worse during pregnancy so didn't want to have to worry!

Thank you that's great. Much appreciated.
I went for the pregnancy multi vits today as well as I figured this was easier.
Do I guess I just sit back and wait now then. It'll be a long old haul :-)
Thanks again

That should have been 'so I guess I just sit back and wait'

Hey amac. You can join us in the due march 2015 thread. Lots of like minded people at the same stage. I also wanted to say that I don't think you should take folic acid AND a pg vitamin as I think that is too much (what my doc said anyway). I'm 5+4 so no expert!!

I will find that thread thank you. It will be good to hear from others in the same stages and hear developments etc.
Don't worry I'm stopping the folic acid for the pregnancy bits :-)

Congratulations!
Yes, it will feel like forever until your scan! It was the hardest bit in my opinion.
Start reading up on what you can and can't eat on nhs website as I was given lots of inaccurate advice and could have had a lot more than I expected. Read up on the advice re what you should avoid etc as first trimester you have to be exceptionally careful about things to give your baby the best chance.
Start researching or thinking about your hospital/birthing options - as they may expect you to have chosen when you see midwife (you can change after your decision, it's just an admin hassle for referrer). Make sure you eat lots of iron rich foods as anaemia is really common, even if you're taking a pregnancy vitamin and it can make you feel knackered.

Thank you. It is agonising. We found out on Saturday after doing a test a few weeks ago which was negative, clearly too early to test. I had been using ovulation sticks due to irregular periods so guess I would always find out early. We go on holiday in 4.5 weeks when I will be about 9 weeks so being away for 2 weeks will help time pass a little. Then nearly scan time once home. I am quite tempted by an early scan.
I will do the research thank you. I went shopping tonight and went to pick something up forgetting and realised I couldn't have it :-)

Hi I've just found out I'm pregnant for the 1st time after 8 months of trying. I'm approximately 4 weeks. Been to see the doctor and they have referred me to the midwife, who will contact me. Is this normal practise?
Thanks

Hi KarlaD,
Congratulations!!
I have just found out i am pregnant too after about 9 months of trying and I am about 6-7 weeks I think. I called my doctors on Monday and they booked me in with the midwife, this is normal practice I discovered. I'm not seeing her until 18th Aug which seems and agonisingly long time. These early weeks are tough just waiting as nothing happens yet. But rest assured your referral is normal practice.
