Chickenpox

I had chickenpox as a child and know I am definitely immune to it, as I've been tested previously and have evidence of antibodies. We're having some visitors soon who have been in contact with a child with chickenpox, though I'm sure they have both also had chickenpox previously. I was fine with this, but it's now been suggested by a family member that this isn't such a good idea. I'm not being irresponsible am I?

I have been exposed to CP twice this pregnancy (once my own child and once a friends child). After speaking to the MW I was reassured that if I had had CP I and the baby would be fine - then I explained id not had CP and had to have some injections.

Call your MW to double check but it is my understanding that if you are immune then you are fine.

If your visitors have no symptoms and believe they've had it before then they are no more risk to you than someone in the street. Especially if you've had chickenpox before too, what antibody evidence do you have? My dd recently had a nasty bout of chicken pox, she is 12 and had managed to be around it but never catch it until now, she was ill for 4 weeks and is still plastered now!

So long as there is no direct contact with someone who is infectious then you are fine. If the people coming to stay have previously had chicken pox then they act as a 'barrier'.

Thanks for your reassurance. I used to work in a hospital directly with patients Phoebe, so occupational health took blood before starting work to check I didn't need a vaccine.

I am a nursery teacher and we have chicken pox on the go at the moment. Once she'd checked I'd already had it the midwife said there was no concern for me there.
