Pregnancy

totally paranoid question about pre-eclampsia

when can symptoms start?

I'm 14wks, and keep getting headaches.

I know headaches can be a general symptom of pregnancy, and I have a 21mo DS who is an early riser, so no - am not getting enough sleep, and I know am not eating right...but - just because am being paranoid today - how early can pre-eclampsia start?

thanks

I'm not sure how early it can start, I had pre eclamsia in my last pregnancy but only from 37 weeks, this time I had a terrible headache that lasted for days and days, I went to see the Dr and they checked my blood preasure and it was fine, they seemed to think pre-e could be a possibility even so early so I guess it can start eary.

They told me that often the hormones cause headaches, hopefully that is the case for you, headaches are no fun though whatever the cause, I hope they go away soon for you.

I was told that pre eclampsia doesn't happen until 21 weeks as I unfortunatly I have symptoms, u need to have protien in ur urine, and certain triggers in a PET blood work, blurred vision, flashing lights, floaters, general malaise, my symptoms have been getting worse over past few weeks (25 weeks at the mo!) But blood work always ok! I have been given the same talk every week on phone straight away if I feel horrid, but I was told I had pregnancy induced hypertension before 21 weeks but it should never happen before 21 weeks and a midwife at hospital said my midwife was being crazy for doing bloods every week from 20 weeks but they are still doing them, phone up midwifes or ward if your worried I always do, I currently feel pants but my sons I'll I haven't slept much and think I'm going down with bug too so not phoning just yet

Pre-eclampsia from 20 weeks. But if you have unusual headaches or other worrying symptoms with them you should still get checked out, as you would if not pregnant. Hope it gets better soon.

I'm afraid I'm a bit of an expert at PET having had it with DS1. He was born at 32 weeks after my appointment then showed id gone downhill rapidly from my 28 week appointment.

I too had headaches, really bad ones that painkillers, a dark room, lots of fluid and a cold flannel wouldn't shift. Then at the appointment BP was up, protein was LOTS etc and boom he was delivered by c section weighing 2 and a half pounds.

This time I'm "high risk" and when I had a thumping headache at 16 weeks they had me in for a check up, no messing around. And have had appointments from 20 weeks each week as that's when it can start from. What I'm saying is if your concerned see the midwife, they will look after you, it's there job xx

I had lots of headaches in the early second tri. My BP was lowish and my mw wasn't worried. I had a session of acupuncture and that really helped.

Contact your mw for a check if you are worried.
