Falling down the stairs

Hi There

On Saturday, I was a bit dippy and fell down the stairs, landing on my back. I'm ok and I think baby's ok too. I've had no bleeding, no cramp or anything except bruises where I hit the steps.

I don't want to go to hospital as I'm a bit scared of what they may find and I've had no symptoms to suggest anything is wrong (no bleeding etc) but I think I'm getting a bit paranoid.

Before the fall, I could feel baby move and now after the fall, I can still feel the same type of movement (it feels like the baby's head gently pushing against my tummy). The problem is that I'm a bit paranoid as I've had 3 miscarriages. Could my baby possibly have died and now what I'm feeling is the body just 'swishing' around inside me?

I fell down the stairs when pg with ds (my 1st) i also landed on my back & ds was still moving but i did go to hospital to be checked, if i was you i would still be checked it's better to be safe than sorry.

I know it's scary because i remember sitting in the chair on the monitor & being checked over thinking i hope everything is ok, which it was

Thanks for the advice Scoobydoo. I've got a midwife appointment on Friday so I'll probably wait till that. I'm 17 weeks gone now.

I was only 12 weeks when I fell down the stairs whilst pg with my dd. I had really low bp and passed out while walking downstairs.
I panicked and got checked out straight away, but the mw said that they are so well cushioned that she probably didn't feel a bump!
I understand you being scared, but can reality really be any worse than thinking you have a dead baby inside you

Ok, I'll pop along to A and E this evening when dh gets back from work and can baby sit DS1. Humm, getting a bit anxious now.

A friend of mine tripped up a kerb and landed square on her bump and everything was fine. All the amniotic fluid does a really good job of protecting the baby. If you are getting yourself in a state just ask to be monitored. It's really not worth all the stress of waiting for your next appointment and the midwives honestly won't think that you're making a fuss.

GWU - Have you been yet? I hope everything is ok, let us know, i was 20 weeks when it happened to me, i was also told that the baby is well cushioned but i think its safer to be checked if you feel the need, at the time i felt the need

Didn't want to worry you any more than you already are but I think you should get checked out. Saying that, am sure that everything will be just fine.

I haven't been checked yet.

I called the Labour Ward and explained the situation. She said it's highly unlikely anything horrid's happened since I don't have any symptoms so I should go to the GP tomorrow instead rather than to A and E tonight as she said I would be very low priority (which is what I like to hear) and would have a really long wait. She did say that if anything had happened, there'd be nothing they could do any way for the baby.

Thanks for your concerns, I'll let you know what happens after the GPs visit tomorrow.

It really doesn't sound like you've got anything to worry about, as you haven't noticed any differences in the baby's movement since the fall. I'm sure your GP appointment tomorrow will confirm that.

Just wanted to let you know that I've just been to the GPs and we heard the baby's heartbeat. Yes, you're right Lazyemma!

PS GP also said that if baby had died, then there'd be absolutely no feeling of any movement.
