Hi all, I'm a mum of two I had a mc on the 7/1/14 and now pregnant again I'm 6 weeks the nhs won't do a early scan so going to have a private one done. When should I have it as I just want to know everything is fine and hear a heart beat. Thanks emily

Whereabouts in the country are you? I think it differs from one private clinic to the next.

Im really sorry for your loss.
I had a mc in September and it has made this pregnancy really worrying for me.
I think some places won't scan before 7weeks as they may not be able to see a heartbeat before then. I have also heard that if you see a heartbeat after 8 weeks the risk of mc drops to 5% so it's probably worth holding off that long if you can.
I went for a private scan at 10+5 as my previous loss was at 10+2 so I knew it wouldn't put my mind a rest if I had it before then so the best time to go was very personal for me. The scan went well and did help me to relax until the 12 week scan. I'm currently 21+ 4 and all going well so it can all be ok after a mc.
I hope it all goes well for you too.

Wish you all the luck you will be fine. I feel much better with this pregnacy and I'm so sick and tired just at the back of my mind if that makes sense. ?? xx

Hello, i would not bother just yet, I made that mistake today. I went for a private scan and you could only see the sac, nothing else. Now Im terrified. I thought it would make me feel better and i feel a lot worst. Im meant to be 7+3 but not sure Im that far.....dont really know how to tell to be honest Confused

To add I am now going to wait for next one on NHS as normal 10-12 weeks whenever they call me. I dont know if anything is wrong....but the doctor told me it might be too early.

In my opinion 9 weeks is a good time to have a viability scan. There's more to see and it is more reassuring. Definitely not before 8 weeks unless you have symptoms that need ectopic to be investigated as a possibility. Before 8 weeks it can just cause more worry. This is my experience based on two missed miscarriages diagnosed by private scans and two normal pregnancies where I also had early scans.

Thank you I will wait. I can't seem to stop being sick and with two boys already keep asking me what's wrong lol. Will keep positive x

I found out really early as well which doesn't help with the waiting game does it!
I told my 2 girls straight away but they are older (11 and 15) so able to understand - they knew about the mc as well and have been fab.
I agreed with myself that at 8 weeks I would book a scan for 10.5 weeks as it gave me a date to work towards and broke the waiting up a bit.

Yeah that's good. Yeah both my boys were at home when I miscarried Freddie (4)wouldnt leave my side and he was so upset when I lost the baby asking where his sister was. Had to get my mum to help as my husband works away. But at least I feel really ill with this one I feel that's one relief I didn't have that with the previous one. ?? good luck xx
