Hi, my sister is 6 weeks pg, she started spotting today and has cramps. Had her on phone. She is terrified to call doc or mw. What is advice? Get to doc ASAP ( what I said), or rest up and monitor? She rang in sick to work this morning and they were bloody horrible and pretty much suggested it was nothing at all and no reason not to be in, think they ended conversation with ' see you in the morning'! Find out if your local hospital has an Early Pregnancy Unit. If you do have one near give them a call.

Hi at 6 weeks I had spotting and cramps and I rang my GP who then referred me to the early scanning people. I was scanned the same day sometimes it's next day. It was all fine but definitely eased my mind I even saw a heartbeat. She should call her GP and take their advice. It's not always bad news and it's better to know all the facts. Good luck to her I hope it turns out ok.

Oh sorry just to be clear some areas you can refer yourself to the early pregnancy unit, some areas your GP or midwife have to do it. I'm sure if you rang either GP or EPU they could advise you.

I had to ring my community midwife when I had my bleed.

Tell her to go to hospital...and if they have an EPU they will check her over.
I am 20 weeks pregnant and didn't realise until 14 weeks as I still had periods !!
I had another one at 16 weeks, and was really panicked as by this time I knew I was pregnant so I went to A&E and was scanned in the EPU unit.
Apparently it's really common - and the staff at the hospital can't offer any explanation for it other than I might just have a bleed every month !
But best to get checked out just for peace of mind !
