Have heard of this... does anybody know the indications for an educated guess? Or old wives tales to help the guesswork!

i had a strong feeling mine was a girl at the 12 week scan, just couldnt explain it but it was a gut 'revelation' if you will...20 week scan confirmed my feelings! Of course she could still be a he but it doesn't seem likely and got a very clear picture with the 3 lines.

The nub theory your better off checking ingender for that i think, although on my 12 week pic you couldn't really see one.

Thanks 22honey good instinct! I had heard that it was something to do with head profile? No idea where I heard it now. We think boy. Everyone else thinks girl. No particular science behind it for us though!

Skull theory is not worth looking at, I'd go by nub theory.
Saw dd's nub and was confirmed at 20 week scan.
Have seen this dc's and had it confirmed too.
Seems pretty accurate to me although obviously you have to see the nub to have a guess!

Thanks ginger. Alas no nub visible. Just gut instinct for the next 8 weeks.

So old wives tales...

Did you have an initial feeling one way or the other? Or a gut feeling? I really believe I 'knew' as soon as I got my Bfp but then I'm good at convincing myself I know best

if you ask the sonographer if they can see the nub and what they think, do they normally say they can't tell you or will they say what they think (obviously making it clear that it's not an official thing)? I'd just like to know what they think I wouldn't make serious decisions based on it :p

Initial almost certainty... not sure where it came from really.

Alita some hospitals won't even tell you at 20 weeks!
