So fed up with feeling ill!

Hi everyone I'm currently 37 weeks pregnant with my second dc. With my first I had morning sickness the whole way through, every single day without fail but it actually feel like it didn't effect me much and I felt ok!

This time I didn't so much have regular morning sickness it was more nausea in the first trimester which was horrible but again just dealt with it, went through feelings of dizziness etc in second trimester but all was fine of the whole.

About 4 weeks ago though I just suddenly started feeling very very sick. Like I'd eaten something that didn't agree with me? Constant burps that smelled and tasted like rotting eggs which then led to throwing up. Made a drs appointment and he said it was a bug so had a few days off work then felt okish. Since then though it's been on and off and I've had several trips to the hospital due to not being able to keep anything down. This last week the nausea etc has been constant as well as what feels like a constant head ache.

The dr at the hospital said it sounded like I was just digesting my good extra slowly so the food on my stomach was basically rotting (leading to the smell etc) but couldn't actually so anything for me bar prescribing laxatives (I already have a dodgy stomach most of the time so really not much help).

It's now gotten so bad that I'm just sick several times a day. Doesn't matter what I eat or drinks it always has the same effect. I can't lay down flat because I feel the terrible nausea come on straight again causing me to be sick again so I'm having to sleep almost sitting up which is then giving me back ache Sad.

I just don't know what to do. I'm sat here in tears after another night of hardly any sleep. My head hurts and I'm just so fed up. I just want my baby here now, I want to look at him and see that it was all worthwhile (because deep down I know it is) but right now I just feel so shit Sad

You need to be very careful to not get dehydrated, and call your doctor to discuss. Try sipping water very slowly, ice cold helps. I have hypermesis (are they sure about the rotting food thing?) and it's relentless. Don't worry so much about eating right now, liquid would be my main concern. You can buy ketosticks from the chemist to make sure you are hydrated enough but they may want to admit you just to be sure.

Sorrh you are having such a horrible time Thanks I have six weeks to go and it feels like a marathon to the end.

I don't think they really know what's wrong with me tbh! I mean my gp said it was a bug, midwife agreed but said it sounds worse then what my gp described and then the dr at the hospital mentioned about the rotting food. That was all without any tests (apart from urine sample) and no one has seemed overly concerned which then makes me doubt myself Sad

I just wonder because it follows the pattern of hypermesis so closely. I have no idea about the rotting food thing but it sounds extraordinary if so and hugely unfortunate.

If you want advice on how to get through the sickness come join us on the hypermesis thread - also some Web links you can look up for more information to see if it sounds familiar.

There may be some women who have come across this. But I find it hard to believe if you are throwing up that there is rotten food in your belly. Have they not even given you any medication to relieve the sickness? There is plenty available which is safe to take. You poor thing, big hugs.

You would not believe btw the amount of ignorance there is in the medical community about nausea and sickness in pregnancy. So long as the baby is growing healthily it's a put up and shut up attitude which is so very wrong. I've had no life for the last 34 weeks and that has been with medication that stemmed the worse of the sickness.

I would get your dh to go to the pharmacy and buy those sticks so you can monitor your hydration levels. Instructions are on the box. Sip water slowly and regularly, and try things like coke, lucozade or tonic water all icy cold. Or ice cubes to suck on. If none of that works and your hydration levels are not good, get back to your doctor with the sticks as proof and also a copy of the NICE guidelines on medicating sickness in pregnancy.

In a worst case scenario you may need admission to go on a drip. Shame we have to battle for these things but help is available. Also look at these sites

//www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/

There is also a helpline 024 7638 2020. This is staffed by a retired GP who I am sure would be more than happy to talk through your symptoms with you and give you further advice and direction on what the problem could be.

My digestive system and bowel have been completely ruined through pregnancy and I think it's very common to have constipation. Not ever been told that my food is rotting though Confused

Good luck Thanks

Oh god thank you so much for your replies, it's so nice to feel like someone understands Sad

That's exactly how I feel the drs view everything btw! Baby is very active and my blood pressure is fine so basically just get on with it and stop moaning! Thank you so much for all your advice, I'll take a look at those links and also try everything you've suggested! Envy

Here's where a lot of us discuss our sickness, never ever too much tmi :)

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/2027794-Hyperemesis-Support

Lots of collective wisdom there. I am currently back in bed after having attempted to sit up all morning. Had to stop work at 17 weeks which was such a blessing looking back! Now at 34 weeks I have relentless nausea and struggle to eat properly - by now our innards are so squashed there is not much food I can keep down anyway. I long for normality and a big steak and beer Grin and am praying that the baby decides to make an appearance around 37 or 38 weeks!

Even though you are so near the end now it still must seem like forever and a day. I'm so sorry you have to go through this but as you say, it is going to be so worth it :)
