I am facing terrible constipation since around week 6 through to now at week 12. This is making me feel even more sick than I already do. Have really tried to eat as healthily as possible and I am eating lots of fruit and veg. Do you have any advice on how to combat this?

I was the same. I have prune juice and all bran with chopped bananas for breakfast and have never looked back Grin

I agree with dazed. Same remedy for me but I snack on pears too and I think they also help.

I too am on all bran and banana for breakfast.

I'm on holiday at the moment in Asia and have noticed that the diet here suits me better. When I get home I'm going to carry on with fruit for breakfast, but no bread and pasta.

Prune juice did it for me, plus fruit - as much as I could eat. Hope you get a clearout soon!

I got some fybogel prescribed from the gp - a massive box of about 50 sachets as I was so uncomfortable with constipation and hadn't been for literally days. I took one morning and night and although I had to wait a few days initially for success, it did the trick.

I'm 9 weeks and mine seems to be improving with breakfasts of sultana bran and snacking on fruit (one of the few sweet things I can stomach). I bought some oat bran to make porridge but vomited the only time I made it, so that's still in the cupboard! Hope something works for you!

You can also buy fybogel in supermarket and fine to use in pregnancy. Lactulose is also good (tmi but makes it easier to go when u do finally go) - u can buy over counter but also get on prescription from GP so that it's free. I'm having it every day now, consultant told me it's fine to take constantly for few weeks. Lactulose works by drawing fluid into the bowels. Lots of fruit good as is bran but also you need lots and lots of fluids (water, juice) otherwise the extra fibre can actually make it worse. Hope you find something that works soon!

Innocent smoothies. Discovered by accident, had to (gratefully!) Find a loo when out and about after one at lunch yesterday.

Firstly I feel your pain, I have had a horrendously painful time with constipation and then general large and hard poos (sorry about the detail!)

I tried:
Prune juice
Plenty of fruit and veg (6-9 portions a day)
Bran flakes
loads of water
walking
swimming
And nothing was softening them (tmi!)

Dr prescribed lactulose and it is a miracle!

Thanks for all the tips! Am on +5 fruit and veg a day, plus lots of water and muesli or porridge for breakfast but nothing is working. My stomach is so hard I look like I'm 5/6 months pregnant already! Will try the prune juice and the fybogel!

Prune juice but it only works for a while. My digestion is fvcked by iron tablets and it makes me excessively grumpy due to discomfort.

noor sorry you are still suffering - honestly though, in a few days the Fybogel will have worked through and you will feel so much better. I remember expecting instant results and being disappointed when that didn't happen. Once you have success, keep up the sachets, one at night and one in the morning and you will get back to normal quite quickly and feel so much better.

Cariad yes, I got Fybogel on prescription and got a lovely big box with it Smile

If you go into Holland & Barrett they sell wheat bran which is something like 95% fibre and it's only 95p. I was told by the doctor to try it when I was diagnosed with bowel disease after a really traumatic ruptured appendix/peritontis experience and senna/prune juice and all other laxatives just weren't working! It comes in flour consistancy and you sprinkle it into your cooking so if you can't stomach milk/cereal it's a really good alternative

Unfortunately I'm still living in Dubai right now and as far as I can see they don't sell Fybogel here!! Disaster! Have found that noodles seem to help...strangely enough :-)

Another vote for fybogel. And it's not too horrible either! as long as you gulp it down as soon as you've added water. Don't let it get gloopy though!
