When is it ok to start? I'll be 12 weeks 'ish' Sunday?

I wouldn't yet. As you will end up buying loads otherwise!

But start writing a list of what you need/ want, ten keep looking at it and realise you don't need half of it

Ie baby towel, when you realise you have a cupboard full of regular towels already which do the same thing

Any time, even before you're pregnant is fine - enjoy xx

It's ok to start whenever you want to, although I think most people wait till after the 20 week anomaly scan to buy big stuff just in case things aren't going quite according to plan

Congratulations Thanks

I'm aiming for 30 weeks. Big house renovation project going on until late summer, nowhere to put extra stuff.

I've bought everything. I'm 24 weeks and far too eager and excited.

And started at 12 weeks after first scan.

I didnt "officially" buy anything til 20 weeks, but if I saw an item I fell in love with (blanket, sleepsuit, hat etc) I picked it up with the mindset that it wouldnt still be there when I was past 20 weeks.

DDs first outfit after birth was a teeny pair of grey stripy footed trousers from H&M id picked up pretty much straight after my BFP.

I only bought my first bits last week, I'm 22 weeks tomorrow. As soon as I found out I am expecting a DD though my mum and sisters went out going crazy, spending £100s and now Ive barely anything to buy except the pram when I get my maternity grant! It felt weird at first having loads of pink clothes and cute dresses knocking around the house. I still feel rather nervous buying things to be honest, no one else seems to have a problem!

xx

With this one I started just before 12 weeks, but that was mostly because there was loads of Boxing Day sales on and I didn't want to miss the bargains.

Buying things early won't change the results of your scan.

I think the reason people prefer to wait isnt because they think it would change the outcome of the scan, but that it would feel like a much bigger slap in the face should something go wrong and you've spent lots of money/have to go through the huge hassle of returning lots of items/have to face all the things your baby would have used had they lived, when you'd also be going through the worst time of your life. Obviously something could go wrong at any time, but I believe its a lot less likely to happen after positive scans.

I waited until at least 30 weeks for most things - just didn't want to tempt fate!

We waited until after the anomaly scan at 20 weeks. If we had to terminate at that point, we wouldn't have to come home and sort out any baby stuff.

I started buying things early, but mainly because I wanted to get good secondhand things like a pram and eBay stalking takes time!

Not until after the 20 week scan, just incase something was wrong.

We waited until the 20 wk scan. We also wanted to find out the gender so that would make buying easier. I'm 22 wks now mind you and still haven't bought much! Plenty time though, I'd wait a bit longer but doesn't stop you looking at stuff online and deciding what you will buy. That's what I did.

We didn't find out the gender either time as we prefer unisex stuff anyway. Also wanted x2 child close so wanted to buy mainly unisex to pass on.. As it was we had x2 boys

16 weeks, when we know the gender.

There's no right or wrong time, it's your pregnancy, your baby, you decide. Personally I couldn't bring myself to buy anything for months and months in case something went wrong. The first time I had a missed miscarriage so was very anxious. But if you want to, but now!

Just remember people will want to buy you things so don't go mad just yet!

For DD who is now 3, I started at about 7 weeks, just a little outfit to convince myself it was real. We ordered the buggy and furniture for the nursery at 18 weeks which in hindsight was a bloody stupid thing to do, and painted the room at 28 weeks.

As it turned out, I had SPD, vertigo and early stage pre-eclampsia by the end (and it was Christmas!) so I'm glad I got everything done and ready before I became unable to move.

Just found out I'm pregnant again but as we still have everything from DD, I'm not looking to buy much this time around!

Whenever you like, but be warned - you're very likely to buy all sorts of things you will never use.
When I was pregnant for DD I had all my shopping complete by sometime around 34 weeks. I learned my lesson… I am now 37 weeks with DS and haven't even started. Will pick up a few bits and bobs starting next week when my mat leave starts but save most of it for when he arrives.
(I know, the shopping is the fun part… sorry for my boring answer!)

Go and buy something, anything, just enjoy yourself. Fate has nothing to do with this. Then enjoying looking at it! But don't go bonkers only because it's so easy to get carried away with stuff you won't need.

We didn't buy anything till 12 week scan. Now 24 weeks and we have bought the nursery furniture, pram, changing bag and isofix car seat base (no car seat, hoping to get that from my brother). I wanted the big stuff before DH went away. We have some second hand clothes from my brother.
I do however have a list of what we want/need, that has almost halved in length since I first wrote it before 12 weeks. I probably won't buy more till nearer due date.

Started at around 30 weeks ordered buggy etc. bought a few little items prior but nothing before around 26 weeks.
