Is this what they call the 'bloody show'??

Got up this morning to find some brown (old blood) stains on my liner and after I had a No2, on wiping I saw a fair bit more - it's definitely not fresh red blood, more brownish, end of period type stuff and no pains.

Have had this on and off all day, although no more on my liner, just when i've been wiping... No sign of mucousy plugs or anything though which I would have expected - or will this follow?

Do I need to go and get checked, or will they say this is just the cervix getting ready and all normal? I am 36+6 but never had this in my first pg at all.

I would get it checked! Everyone is so different and it probably is your plug but no-one on here could definitively tell. Good luck!

I seem to have read lots of things saying that there is a difference between the mucus plug and bloody show. Bloody show apparently being more of an indicator of imminent labour than the plug

I am seeing my consultant tomorrow anyway, so i will check it with her then...

Something must be starting! It sounds like this is the beginning so good luck!

I found that there was a little bit of mucky stuff, followed by the "someone blew their nose" stuff, followed by blood. They can take awhile to happen, even weeks or months, so don't worry too much just keep an eye on any BH you get or more shows.

My midwife said that a show has mucus in it. So if the blood isn't viscous and stringy like mucus I suggest you call the labour ward and double check. They may want you to go into the day assessment unit to check it (they did when I had some bleeding but no mucus - it was completely fine just my cervix was a bit bleedy so don't panic!).

Thanks all.

whereisshe it's not mucusy but I can't really call it bleeding in all honesty so not really panicking. It's spotting at most (although only 1 spot on my liner) and more like a dark reddish brown discharge than anything. The tissue is just a bit stained reddish brown when I wipe Confused

I will see what happens overnight (hoping labour doesn't kick off tonight though as DH is away!) and speak to my cons about it tomorrow. Am hoping it's just my cervix gearing up for the big day!
