Pregnancy

If you have an early scan at 6 weeks, do you get another at 12 weeks or not?

I am apparently 6 weeks pregnant, but that is just a guess as I don't have regular periods, even my GP was baffled by how to work out the dates. I had some light bleeding over the weekend so she referred me for a scan which will be on Wednesday just in case. Assuming everything is ok, and I think it is as pregnancy tests still come up positive and I still feel sick and I just have to be hopeful, will I get another scan at 12 weeks or not?

Afaik, you will still get the 'routine' scans at around 12 and 20 weeks - I certailny did.
Good luck!

Yes you will still get your 12 week scan. I had a lot of bleeding at 6 weeks and had an early scan but still got my normal one.
Even if you have two or three early scans you still get the regular 12 week one.
Hope all goes well on Wednesday

Yes, 6 weeks is too early to do the necessary checks and measurements that they do at the 12 week scan (you will be amazed how much the tiny' blob' at the 6 week scan changes by 12 weeks!), so you will get both.

Thanks.
Part of my question was whether I would then tell family this week, but I will wait until 12 weeks if possible. Will be interesting to see if they can work out a date from Wednesday's scan. My work collleagues already know, as my job involves exposure to various things that would be dangerous to the baby. This will make it worse if things are not ok on Weds and I then have to go to work and tell everyone.

I probably wouldn't tell on the basis of a 6 week scan (unless you'd have told them even without the scan). At 6 weeks you may not even see a heartbeat and, sadly, the miscarriage risk isn't yet much changed. If you turn out to be a bit further along (say 8 weeks plus) then they can given better indications.

I had an early scan at 5wks 5days then another at 8wks 3 days, we told family and close friends after that.

My next scan is at 14wks 2days so we will tell everyone else then.

In my area the next scan is at 20 weeks and then another at 32 weeks. I was quite surprised about the 3rd one but apparently its standard around here.

Yep- early scans just check everything's there in the correct place. Week 12 they can do lots of measurements etc' so it is a different thing!
