Hi i was told at 20 weeks that i had placenta prieva and the scanner said she doubted it would move then ended up with bad pains and lots of pressure last week so ended up in hospital and the doctor said she had checked my notes from my 20weeks scan and said my placenta was lying ontop of my cervix so very low, They have said about c section nd im not worried but im getting fed up now waiting to find out whats going to happen next, i have another scan on the 1st april where i will be 28 weeks and that will be a internal i was told. Anyone else in the same boat! i have two toddlers at home and just want to know whats going to happen!

I think mine is slightly different I was told I had a low lying placenta. Every one has reassured me it's moved up. I've got a follow up scan on Thursday like u an internal :( so see if it has moved.

I know how you feel because they don't give u an info on it. All I was toldl was if I have any bleeding go straight to hospital.

I haven't had any so I'm assuming it's ok.

I hope you get some answers unfortanly it's a waiting game untill your next scan

Hi I'm also due June 2014 and was told at 20 weeks j had low lying placenta that was partially covering cervix so hoping it will move, I'm not getting re scanned till May 16th 2 which seems a very long time to wait! However have had no bleeding so hoping that means it moving. It is frustrating as they didnt really tell me anything so it is just a long waiting game of what if. Everyone tells me though that it's quite rare for the placenta not to move up so fingers crossed for everyone!

They wont know if it has moved up until the scan you. 9/10 of them DO move up, so the odds are in your favour. I thought 32 weeks was the cut off though (but by 28 weeks they'll have a good idea also, obviousy).
Just be patient, it's out of your hands!

I know I have to be patient just not something I'm great at wanting to concentrate on the fact I'm having a girl (mum of two boys) :-) but the feeling of the unknownen is slightly over crowding it lol! Rdr15 that is a long old wait? I hope all goes to plan for you, do u know what sex your having? Xx

I was told yesterday at my 20 weeks scan that the placenta is covering the cervix and booked to be re-scanned at 32 weeks.

No other information/advice was given so I of course Googled - scary stuff! DH suggested I got actual medical advice Grin so I text my midwife today stating that I haven't been taking it easy to date and have been heavy lifting, was there anything I should be doing differently? She text back to say just call the delivery suite if I have a bleed and to see her at 25 weeks as planned.

If she's not worried I guess I shouldn't either. I have to add that I really trust my midwife, she has taken all of my concerns seriously so far (previous birth trauma) and seems very sensible. I will be taking it a bit easier now though as I want to avoid issues if I can.

Yeah I was told at 20 week scan definitely no sex and avoid heavy lifting have not seen my midwife as am now under consultant at hospital and been given open access if I bleed which they said is quite likely but had nothing yet but someone told me it's not usually until 28weeks or after so will see. I'm 36 weeks, I was told it at my 20 weeks scan :) so it's been a long wait lol.

It's just one of those thing I guess try not to focus it on it to much. I'm due in a months time. Seems like a life time away. And this if I don't go over due lol

Yes it is a long wait trying not to think about it too much. I don't know what the sex is its our first so we want a surprise. It's lovely your having a girl lucie26uk that's what I want but everyone keeps telling me it's a boy so another thing to wait for! Has anyone else been having severe back pain? I wondered if it was linked to placenta being low or just regular back pain

Sweetpea86 · 18/03/2014 19:52

Rdr I've been having serve pain my lower back from about 16 weeks but I'm not sure if it was linked to low lying placenta.

To rdr and lucie have you either had any bleeding I haven't that's why I'm confident it's moved up

Sweetpea86 · 18/03/2014 19:53

I've also been getting lots of shooting pains up my vagina sorry tmi I don't no if that's linked either had that from 16 weeks too

rdr15 · 18/03/2014 20:09

I had light bleeding at 17 weeks but nothing since had 20 week scan so hoping that's a positive sign it has moved up. I occasionally get pains also but just guessed it was related to pregnancy. The back pain is horrible been referred to physio for it but don't really know what that will entail.

You could have spd I've got that which is causing bad back and pelvic area. I'm unsure if it would be low placenta causing it tho. Not a lot of Info on it :)

Yes i had some back pains and also i had alot of period type pains which i did not get with my 1st two boys the doctor said it could have been the baby pushing on the placenta because i had alot of pressure with it but its all guess work at the mo! No i have not had any bleeding yet but then someone told me its more likely after 27 weeks but i hear lots of different stories about it so again just guess work what it means. :-)

Hi I have vasau previa and have been told that I need a Cs at 35/36 weeks - my consultant said its the safest option as the cord is too close to the cervix. Most if my scans have been internal because they can really see the placenta and its relationship to the cervix very clearly. They will confirm everything with me at 32 weeks. I have had a few small bleeds and sharp pains but I think all is ok. A friend had pp and needed a CS but her did not move at all. Good luck!

Hello ladies. I had placenta praevia with both my daughters (DC2&3) following a manual removal of placenta with DS.

It is correct that 9/10 low lying placentas move up by 34 weeks and some hospitals even rescan just before a section only to find it has moved.

I am apparently very unusual as I suffered the same condition twice. Just because you haven't had bleeding doesn't mean your placenta had moved, it just means you have the more usual, stable form of the condition. I suffered from the unstable kind which meant I bled during pregnancy.

With DDq I made it to 33.5 weeks and was then in hospital until she was born at 37.5 weeks. With DD2 I was admitted at 24 weeks, 26 weeks, 31 weeks, 3 times at 33 weeks at which point I was kept in. I had a section booked for 37 weeks but ended up with an EMCS at 36+1.

With DD1 I was only told to call the labour ward if I got bleeding. With DD2 I was told no sex, no pushing a shopping trolley, no flying, no being on my own (I had to be babysat - infuriating)

If you gave any questions, please feel free to ask me.

Lucie hope you don't mind me sneaking in on this post again, audit angel thanks for that info. I have my 36 week scan to check placenta tomorrow I'm quite nervous. You've give the most info than any midwife or doctor lol

AuditAngel like what we were talking about yesterday did you have any lower pack pain due to low placenta. I haven't had any bleeding so every body keeps telling me it's fine.

Good news Sweetpea.

No I didn't suffer back pain any more than in my first pregnancy, until I was admitted then I got back pain from the bed Grin

With DD1 she was transverse until about a week before she was born, then she turned and got wedged. They had to use forceps during the CS to extricate her!

In nothing cases my placenta was Grade 4 which is as severe as it can be. Completely covering the cervix. With DD2 my placenta was enormous, it started posterior and came all the way up past my belly button at the front.

Happy to answer questions.

So as mine is laying on top of my cervix that is very low then? Sorry for all questions x
