Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
//www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi everyone finally added my date.

Spent weekend in bed eating shop bought plain sarnies, feeling sick lots but so far mechanically puking, breakfast bounced back within minutes today. V depressing.

How is everyone else?

Hello, I posted this in the old thread...ooops, sorry!

Wowee I had such a great day yesterday! So glad I was feeling good on my birthday. I had a normal eating day and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Cereals, bacon roll, an ice cream from the best ice cream factory ever and a roast chicken dinner cooked by my mumI'm 11+2 today and seriously surprised at how good I'm feeling. I don't want to count my chickens but I hope I'm on the up for a bit.How is everyone else?

Booboo would be a tad risqué to aim for an earlier date as it's a booked section Grin

urgh had a migraine yesterday. How rude! had 3 hours in bed randomly while dh cooked dinner. was still headachey today; starting to get antsy about pre-eclampsia, but it's fine now.

Strange...the only food I have been able to eat for the past two days is a cheese sandwich. Three times a day. It has to be super hot mexicana cheese as well, this does nothing for the reflux (fortunately only having a morning vom at mo)
Still, there's calcium in that cheese :-)

Don't know what I'll eat once this food is no longer safe....

Hi all!

How great that you had a good day for your birthday mrsb! Very impressed by all that food.

I've had a rotten few days. Back in hospital on Saturday after not eating at all Thurs and Fri and barely keeping down fluids. Turns out that as well as the HG I had a raging uti and low potassium.

Anyone else have low potassium because of the sickness? I now have to take potassium tablets three times a day for three days and I'm really struggling. They're soluble and could be the most disgusting thing I've every had to swallow. If anyone has any tips they'd be great fully received.

livingzuid · 17/03/2014 15:01

mrsb great to hear you are feeling better, means the medication is working I hope!

mrshende how rotten for you :( no advice on the potassium but have they given you something for the uti?

chaffinch I was at ikea on Friday and suddenly got jagged lights across my vision just whilst I was sitting there eating lunch. It was so scary. I wasn't dizzy or anything but have had bad migranes recently. Wearing sunglasses made it go away Grin but have another check in with the gynaecologist again on Friday for BP check and am so scared it's going to be pre eclampsia.

And I have awful insomnia. Three nights in a row I've been asleep at 4.30 am and have had about 3 hours at a time. Am so buggered. It makes me feel so so sick as well, I had terrible nausea last night and most of today. Does anyone else get the tired and sick correlation?

ChaffinchOfDoom · 17/03/2014 15:05

living wonder if it's the meaning of the phrase 'sick and tired'
I get migrainey when the season changes , the light is different.

Report
Meerka · 17/03/2014 15:34

HOw are you doing now, pickofthepops? can you keep some liquid down more easily at least?

Oh heck mrshende ... so glad they caught the UTI, they can (apparently, so a nurse told me) be relatively painless in preg but they're not very safe :( You're on antibiotics now?

glad you had such a nice birthday mrsb :)

living i REALLY notice that if I can't sleep then I feel worse the next day. Have pretty major insomnia for years (along with ME, whoopee) and 4 hour nights are kind of very common, and yes, the next day is always way worse nausea/vomitting wise. Particularly nausea since the last few days the upchucking's been a bit better. Def get that visual disturbance get checked out, nasty :(

Hi all!

mrsb sounds you had a fab birthday, fingers crossed for no relapses.

Punk what is mexicana cheese? Spicy cheese?!?

living I've struggled with sleeping lately too, dd usually wakes up at least once a night and somethimes I just can't get back to sleep afterwards. Was awake 3-5am one night last week and the nausea the next day was vile, worse than I've had in weeks.

On plus side feeling ok-ish today. Got my 20 week scan on weds, can't believe I'm halfway through this hideous marathon, thank god. Better not go overdue this time. Wonder if I can ask to be induced early just to get it over with?!

Report
livingzuid · 17/03/2014 15:48

chaffinch Grin literally true yes! Never occured to me about the change in light.

Thanks guys good to know about the sleep. I will try for a bit more tonight.

slice sorry you are rough again but good luck for scan :)

It's the best cheese EVER (until tomorrow when I have suddenly gone off it and I won't be able to look at it;-)
Full of chilli peppers, it is lovely!

Slice yay halfway house! Worst half over with, I'm finding the second half tough purely because although the level of shitness has dropped from say a nine to a five there is still shitness. It's just been too long....

MrsHende
Poor you :-(
Was gonna say bananas too....

Living
Without a doubt, the more I do the worse the nausea. Prof said so too so it must be true ;-) (hehe super glad he said this in front of OH)
Bah, I had horrible insomnia from week nine to 18ish, steroid induced, it's much better now I'm on a baby dose. But you have my absolute sympathy, it's dreadful, sleep is our only respite from the horror...

MrsB
Excellent news, honestly if you are getting some good days at this stage hopefully you will be one of the lucky ones who gets a remission and an early one at that :-)

Doom and Meerka next two in line......soon be here!

7 days of worsening sickness again. Managing to keep fluids down and the occasional snack but i've not been drinking enough (so little energy and motivation, and the kitchen smells so bad!) and I've now got 4+ ketones.
Decided not to tell Hubby, and to try really really hard this evening to drink more. Not feeling too bad, no headache and still producing saliva... Will test again tomorrow.

Happy belated birthday Mrsb, glad it was a good day.

Oh slice, I think we all wish for early babies or sympathetic inductions!

Report
Meerka · 17/03/2014 17:56

oh petitlapin ... please be careful. I'd think you need emergency care if you are 4+.

Hope you can get some liquids down tonight even if its only by sipping, or by sucking icecubes

Report
LucindaE · 17/03/2014 18:06

My goodness, Petitelapin I so agree with Meerka you need IV with 4+ ketones, you poor thing, I don't think you can battle back from that level of dehydration by yourself. Can OH take you straight to A and E?
